The Ocean Between Us Vocalist Judd Wrighton Announces Departure
The Ocean Between Us vocalist Judd Wrighton has announced his departure from the band.
The news comes after the band cancelled the remaining dates of their UK tour last week. As Wrighton reveals in a lengthy message below, the band have suffered finacially difficulties over the last eighteen months. Judd also expressed his frustration over the delayed release of the bands recently released album, ‘Savoir Faire.’
Judd Wrighton posted the following message:
“I know it’s April Fools Day and I couldn’t really choose a worse day to announce this as most of you probably will think its just a prank… I can assure you with the great detail that this is far from a joke. (Its after 12 anyway.)
But last week mid-tour, I decided to part ways with my band. This is why the tour was cut short along with we couldn’t even afford to hire the van driver for any more days as it was putting us in serious debt; apologies York and London.
I am fully acknowledging that after years of hard work, constant struggling and skinting myself just to push myself that little bit further, taking chances, getting ill, getting constantly messed about by the money hungry industry and obvious disagreements and differences with about 8 different ex and current members I’ve dealt with over the past few years, it has all gone to waste.
There is only so much I could have done, however to make a career out of music is for the third parties to help you in one way or another, whether its lots of money, general contacts, awesome press, awesome management etc we never had the option for any of that, it has always been based upon nothing other than hard work which of course is the only thing i could have put in that doesnt cost me any money.
Another thing is we recorded our debut album in April last year and was ready to release at the end of summer 2012. Why I had to suffer cleaning toilets for the past 6 months waiting for the day of 25th March 2013 is beyond me but still it has been far too long since we had a good run in 2011. The wait has done nothing apart from literally watch a line go more and more downhill.
As far as I’m concerned I personally dont think THE OCEAN BETWEEN US will go any further as a band and will reach very few new ears.
Benjamin has sided me with this decision and I’m not sure at this point what the rest of the guys are going to do. There will probably be some talks later this week. However all I can say is thanks to everyone who’s been apart of this for me over the years, and to go support our record label by buying a copy of the new album or buying a t-shirt or something.
I will always continue writing music and you will be hearing something new musically from me very soon but TOBU is just a non progression in my eyes and i am done wasting my time and efforts with it.
I am also going to continue making music videos and work as hard as I can to get as good as I can possibly be at drawing, for a possible future in tattooing (if I’m ever good enough) and just keep using my creative mind to rolly polly my way through life. Expect big things, expect no things. I don’t have a clue what the future holds. I actually have nothing after I fucked up everything I cared about over the past 2 years due to being a social retard and not having my priorities straight.
So I guess it can only get better from here, right?”
Album Review: The Ocean Between Us - Savoir Faire
The Ocean Between Us have kept their fans in great suspense but the wait is finally over with their debut album ‘Savoir Faire’ ready for people to get their hands on; it was definitely worth the wait.
From opener ‘In Sickness And Wealth’ right through to closer ‘God Is An Atheist,’ The Ocean Between Us consistently deliver their trademark post-metalcore sound to a killer standard. With fierce vocals, chugged riffs and rapid percussion, the quintet mixes the perfect combination of elements to produce some really solid material.

Album Review: Eager Teeth - Eager Teeth
Members of the impressive roster of A Wolf at Your Door alumni (with other such breakaway successes such as Lower Than Atlantis, Deaf Havana, and this year’s hopefuls Mallory Knox) Eager Teeth have been taken under the wing of AWOYD, which seem to generate success. These guys must be excited. A refreshing take on post hardcore, a more friendly take on punk, Eager Teeth’s self titled debut album bursts with energy, not seeming to take a breath.
The perfect song to open the album, ‘Mary Rosed’ sets the precedent for the rest of the album, immediately defining their sound and displaying the talents of the band. One of the main things that stands out is just how raw these guys sound; it’s just pure rock n’ roll, balls to the wall punk rock.

Album Review: Mallory Knox - Signals
Considering their arguably short career, Cambridge quintet Mallory Knox has already reached an impressive status and this is only just the beginning. With ‘Signals’ ready for release there is a lot depending on this début full-length; bearing this in mind I am more than intrigued to dig in and see what the five-piece are made of.
The first few tracks on ‘Signals’ sets the standard high and there’s hope that this will continue to define a strong and consistent record. ‘Beggars’ executes a highly infectious chorus, hosting impressive emotional filled vocals from frontman Mikey Chapman. Having all four remaining members on backing vocals works in the bands favour at the end of the track, with quieter crossover vocals adding some last minute texture to an already belter of a song.

Album Review: We Are Lost Boys - Life EP
Reading’s promising talent We Are Lost Boys return with their second EP ‘Life’, having debuted with ‘Making Memories’ last year. With the four-piece having shared stages with big names such as Deaf Havana and We Are The Ocean they have already impressed sold out venues, hoping to impress similarly with this new record.
Opener ‘Don’t Care’ notes heavy influences of Lower Than Atlantis in the opening riff, continued melody – in particular the second half of the first verse where the drum beat kicks in - and throughout the chorus. The one element that distinguishes this alternative rock band from their influence is vocalist Danny Wright’s distinguishable sounds in the verses. ‘Don’t Care’ makes for a great opening track on the EP and its energy gives ‘Life’ a promising start.

Album Review: Hildamay - Miles Away
After presenting the blueprints, Hildamay finally construct their début full length album, which confirms the ambition and sheer potential of the Kent quintet. ‘Miles Away’ takes a punk rock urgency and grit to a very high scale that is almost reachable.
The musical foundations of this record involve very well crafted songs that merge and establish a co-operative relationship between melody and heaviness. For example, ‘Broken Records’ sees a Deftones-esque intro which features slamming bass and drums that are followed by a fluttering output. This balanced formula helps to create brilliant anthems that latch onto you with the mightiest talons; the faith questioning ‘The Light’ and rocking cyclone that is ‘Changing the Key’ are huge songs that’ll have many a person scurrying to eat out of the band’s hands. A significant symbol of this mould is from lead vocalist Tim Lawrence who manages to shift from gravel tinted bellows that rip roar like on the monstrous ‘A Wild Fervour’ to a sheer softness that accompany rising winds as found on ‘Consequence’.
