Alpha Male Tea Party Release First Track in Five Years (‘Battle Crab’)

Alpha Male Tea Party

Liverpudlian math-rockers Alpha Male Tea Party have returned with their first track in five years. It’s called ‘Battle Crab’ and sees the trio depart from their usual instrumental sound with guitarist Tom Peters providing vocals.

With its heavy riffs and polyrhythmic grooves, it makes for a welcome return for Alpha Male Tea Party. The inclusion of vocals naturally opens the door for lyrics to play a central part in the three-piece’s output. ‘Battle Crab’s narrative tells the story of a night out gone bad with unwarranted violence becoming an issue. “Battle Crab is the anxious person’s view of nightlife violence and trying not to surround yourselves with friends who only want validation through starting fights,” explains bassist Ben Griffiths. “It’s about saying ‘Leave me alone, I just want to see if the jukebox has any Steely Dan.”

Commenting on the band’s absence, Griffths said, “Since the release of Infinity Stare, we’ve been pretty damn busy with things like grouting, tiling, buying sensible furniture and, above all, writing new tunes.”

He also addressed the addition of vocals to Alpha Male Tea Party‘s arsenal. “To further complicate matters we’ve added vocals into the dense but sweet sponge pudding that is our sound. Like a toffee sauce, if you will. Here’s the first example of such a delicacy. Devour at will.”

The release of ‘Battle Crab’ comes as Peters, Griffiths, and drummer Greg Chapman prepare to return to the ArcTanGent Festival next month. They’re set to play on the Yohkai stage on Friday (August 15th) afternoon. They’ve also hinted at further new music and shows before the end of the year.
