The Xcerts Share Delicate New Single (‘in your eyes’)
Throughout their career, The Xcerts have delivered a handful of emotionally raw songs, made to tug at the heartstrings. Their new single, ‘in your eyes,’ is the latest addition to that arsenal of tracks.
Its pensive build is a contrast to the energetic side shown on ‘do it to myself’ in January. Lyrically, it sees vocalist and guitarist Murray Macleod at his most reflective, writing an emotionally devasting number.
“‘in your eyes’ is without question the most raw and personal song we’ve ever written. Fundamentally, it’s about loss. The loss of what I deemed to be forever love and the cruelty of cancer. The closing lines of the song are ‘this isn’t goodbye, this is I’ll love you forever’ which serves as a full stop but also has an open-ended feel to it,” shares Macleod. “It’s a desperate grieving cry, but while writing the words, I also thought, well, if this is the last thing we ever create then that’s the message I want to ring out in Jordan, Tom and our fan base’ ears. I’m aware it’s overly sincere, but it’s true, and the truth is all we wanted to convey. The song finishes with Jordan’s mum blowing a kiss and saying “I love you” which is extremely emotional, but it was important for her to close out this song as it belongs to her.”
Gouge Away Join Run For Cover Records
With a roster already consisting of AFI, Basement, Nothing, and more, Gouge Away have become the latest name to join Run For Cover Records.
The visceral South Florida outfit has marked the news with the release of a new track called ‘Figurine’. Over the past decade, Gouge Away have evolved their sound from their unhinged hardcore roots, adding in melodies and elements of noise-rock. On their new single, the quintet sounds as sharp and versatile as ever with Christina Michelle’s agile voice at its core.
“’Figurine’ is the first song we finished with Theo Hartlett (Ovlov, Pet Fox), a friend of ours who has been touring with us on guitar. We wrote this song while on tour last fall and it came together so easily. I went into writing the lyrics with an entirely different idea in mind, but these spilled out of me on one of the drives,” says Christina on writing ‘Figurine’.
“Before the tour, I was digitizing home videos, having to see myself as a kid from an outside perspective. I knew I was shy, a people-pleaser, and all these things, but it was different to watch it on film. I was always afraid of disappointing people so I made myself small and rarely acted outside of this little box I found myself in. Instead of getting into trouble like most kids, I didn’t really break out of my comfort zone until much more recently. I thought I had to work really hard to be loved. I stretch myself so thin to please everyone else that it winds up being the expectation. I found people who love me, even when I am a messy trainwreck, and that toppled my entire reality. And yet, there’s still this little kid inside of me who is afraid of upsetting her parents. We recorded this song live to tape in Portland at Jackpot! It was our first time working with Larry Crane and it was so much fun.”
‘Figurine”‘ will also be released on a limited 7″ (pre-order), which includes a physical-only cover of ‘Eisbär’ by Grauzone.
Koyo Preview New Album with ‘What I’m Worth’
As they prepare to release their second album, ‘Barely Here,’ on May 8th via Pure Noise, Koyo have dropped another track from the record. ‘What I’m Worth’ demonstrates the Long Island band’s ability to combine hardcore grit with big hooks.
They have also released the first part of a documentary about the history of Koyo.
A.A. Williams Details New Record and Shares New Single
The ever-magnetic A.A. Williams has set a release date of June 5th for her new album, ‘Solstice’. Set to be released through RPM, the album promises to expand Williams‘ sonic world. As her new single, ‘Hold It Together’ showcases, Williams‘ looks set to deliver an immersive record, full of restraint and vulnerable moments.
Discussing ‘Hold It Together,’ Williams says “Silence exists where you long for answers, a bleak fragility that you daren’t disturb. Where beauty stood only the faintest glow remains, afraid of smothering it you shrink into a mould of your own making. Your edges dulled, your features disappearing, you put on that brave face not knowing whether you do it to protect others or yourself. You smile, you carry on, feeling everything, showing nothing.”
Devin Townsend Plans Ambitious Orchestral Release (‘The Moth’)
Canadian metal maverick Devin Townsend is set to add to his diverse catalogue with the release of ‘The Moth’ on May 29th via InsideOutMusic.
Formed from an idea a decade again, a chance meeting with the head of the North Netherlands’ Orchestra and Choir in Amsterdam spurred Townsend on to create ‘The Moth’.
‘The Moth’ is described by Devin as “a loose story following someone who realises that old patterns of behaviour are no longer serving them. By digging in and sitting with themselves, an internal conflict is revealed, one they may have been resisting or unconsciously rationalizing for years.”
The record is considered to consist of three parts. In addition to the main album, ‘The Moth – The Afterlife’ hones in on the orchestral and choir performances from the North Netherlands’ Orchestra and Choir. There is also ‘The Moth – The War,’ a live recording of the musical that took place last year.
All three parts are packaged together as part of a limited deluxe 3CD+Blu-ray artbook set. Pre-orders can be found here.

Our Nameless Boy Explore Power and Corruption on ‘Little Bird’
Bristol emo-rockers Our Nameless Boy continue to preview their forthcoming ‘Thorns’ EP. ‘Little Bird’ captures the quartet’s delicate and emotive side.
Lyrically, it is written from the perspective of a former friend of a rising populist figurehead. As the track evolves, ‘Little Bird’ traces the uneasy feeling of watching someone you once knew become someone you now fear.
“‘Little Bird’” is a reference to a certain real-life megalomaniacal figure, no need to spell that one out… I think the song does a decent job of conveying that no one is safe from this now all-too-powerful person,” says Iain Gorrie (guitar, lead vocals). “Every verse starts with “How…?”; because I wanted to leave the listener with that age old question; how did we get here?”
‘Thorns’ will be released on Bandcamp on April 10th, and on other DSPs on April 17th.
