Never a band to shy away from their emotions, one of the album&#8217;s standout track, <i>&#8216;Promises&#8217;<\/i>, epitomises how devastingly honest the Florida group can be. With its tender acoustics, impassioned chorus, and stirring structure captures <strong>Mayday Parade<\/strong> at their heart-tugging best. Awash with personal distress,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Promises&#8217;<\/em> is a delicate and cathartic offering.<\/p>\n<p><em> &#8220;I was on a ledge and in a terrible situation life threw at me with something I loved. The news was never good or better, and I kept making myself believe it would eventually be,&#8221;<\/em> reflects\u00a0<strong>Mayday Parade<\/strong> drummer\/vocalist Jake Bundrick. <em>&#8220;I felt alone even though I was sharing those same feelings with my wife. We had to make choices without knowing if they would make the situation better or worse. Sadly, nothing worked. The verses are about the morning it all went south. It&#8217;s a statement they look to solidify on their new album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Death Above Life&#8217;<\/em>. From it comes\u00a0<em>&#8216;Bloodhound&#8217;<\/em> , which is just as monstrous as its title suggests. Christopher Wallerstedt&#8217;s pummelling drum work leads the charge alongside Fredrik Lennartsson&#8217;s throbbing bass line, with Richard Hansson and Niklas Karlsson adding some meaty riffs. Aided by technical proficiency and Karlsson&#8217;s barrage of f-bombs,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Bloodhound&#8217;<\/em> is a bruising and chaotic number.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8216;Bloodhound&#8217; is about anger &#8211; at people, at situations, at an industry that often exploits the very people trying to make it within it,&#8221;<\/em> commented <strong>Orbit Culture<\/strong> on the track. <em>&#8220;It\u2019s about the cycle of revenge, the moments of acceptance, and then the anger flaring up again because nothing really changes. This song is about reclaiming your voice, your power, your worth. It sees <strong>James<\/strong> pour his blend of metal and grime into cathartic rage. It sees the Ipswich-born artist combine rapid bars with sharp, metallic riffs.\u00a0Among its highlights is <em>&#8216;Pry Away&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside its rapping verses is a soaring hook that elevates the cathartic tone that threads <em>&#8216;Confessions of a Sinner&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>together. The steely percussion and drill-down guitars merely add to\u00a0<em>&#8216;Pry Away&#8217;<\/em>s metallic edge. If anything, it stamps <strong>Native James<\/strong>&#8216; place in the UK&#8217;s rap-rock scene with confidence while revealing his personal battles.<em>\u00a0\u201cI wanted to peel the scars off and show wounds with this song,&#8221;<\/em> he shares.<em> &#8220;It\u2019s about the internal struggles of mental health, addiction, being comfortable with talking about what is wrong with us, and us going back to the dark place out of habit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Pry Away&#8217;<\/em> is just one slice of an EP that sees him explore life&#8217;s trials and tribulations. <em>&#8220;It (the EP) entices the duality of oneself while taking you down a path of reflection. Their debut EP,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Greed Between The Lines&#8217;,<\/em> blends The Prodigy&#8217;s electronic chaos with the industrial angst of Burial and socially aware songwriting. EP closer,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Broke The Light&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>broods with a subtly sinister groove as vocalist James Minas sings about emotional vulnerability in a messy relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The track channels the societal frustration and apathy that is threaded throughout\u00a0<em>&#8216;Greed Between The Lines&#8217;<\/em>&#8216; five tracks. Its title track hints at a fairly straightforward slice of charming indie, yet it spirals with a kaleidoscopic sound of shoegaze and improvised trumpets. Alongside its squalling guitars, it&#8217;s a textured delight.<\/p>\n<p>In between the stirring indie rock is Spencer Enock&#8217;s words of philosophical doubt, reminding himself to live in the present. That doubt evolves into appreciation for the little things in life. While they&#8217;re thriving on the live front, on record, they look to find escapism through vocalist Jacky\u2019s tales of a chaotic London. Debut album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Entropy&#8217;<\/em>, thrives off the quartet&#8217;s swaggering indie rock, throwing in the occasional hint of electronic coolness.<\/p>\n<p>Away from the anthemic punch of <em>&#8216;Waste Your Love&#8217;<\/em> \u00a0and\u00a0<em>&#8216;I Was Never There&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0<em>&#8216;Do Or Die&#8217;<\/em> homes in on the band&#8217;s persistence, providing one of the album&#8217;s more emotional cuts. Among the names from it are <b>The Narrator<\/b>. After a summer of mainland European festival spots, the quartet have just dropped <i>&#8216;Pills From The Start&#8217;<\/i>. Bulging with a dense rhythm section, it&#8217;s a boisterous slice of groove-laden metalcore.
