Although Christmas is fast approaching, there is still the small matter of\u00a0#NewMusicFriday<\/strong> releases at hand. For some, the return of\u00a0Aerosmith<\/strong> is sure to spike some interest. Their first new material in over a decade,\u00a0‘One More Time,’<\/em>\u00a0is a collaborative EP with Grammy-nominated rockers Yungblud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Spanish Love Songs<\/strong> make a fleeting return in the form of ‘A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time’.\u00a0<\/em>The four-track EP features cameos from The Wonder Years<\/strong>, Tigers Jaw<\/strong>, Kevin Devine<\/strong>, and Illuminati Hotties<\/strong>. With each track being “an imperfect snapshot of a moment,”\u00a0<\/em>it allows the quartet to demonstrate their thoughtful songwriting in a bite-sized and cohesive manner. While each guest feels intentional.<\/p>\n

When it comes to reissues,\u00a0The Smashing Pumpkins<\/strong> have delved into their archive to celebrate the 30th anniversary of\u00a0‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’<\/em>. Whereas\u00a0Twin Atlantic<\/strong> will be reissuing both 2014’s ‘Great Divide’\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0‘Vivarium’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On The Rise: Seven Blood, SUDS, The Pretty Wild, Knives, Civil Service, and Dropper<\/h2>\n

If you’re looking for emerging talent, you can take your pick from\u00a0Seven Blood<\/strong>, SUDS<\/strong>, The Pretty Wild<\/strong>, Knives<\/strong>, Civil Service<\/strong>, and Dropper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

German newcomers\u00a0Seven Blood<\/strong> make a strong first impression with ‘Life Is Just A Phase’<\/em>. Comfortably sitting in the space between melodic rock, alt-metal, and metalcore, it’s a cathartic collection that equally produces anthemic hooks, as much as it does dramatic flair and emotion.<\/p>\n

For SUDS<\/strong>, their second album,\u00a0‘Tell me about your day again’<\/em>, sees the Norwich quartet deliver a set of bright indie-punk with plenty of emotional depth. Its 11 tracks highlight their melodic charm and pair it with lyrical sincerity, balancing diaristic tales with a relatable narrative.<\/p>\n

Self-professed “baddiecore” sibling duo The Pretty Wild<\/strong> leave their mark on\u00a0‘zero.point.genesis’<\/em>. Jyl and Jules Wylde’s brand of goth-tinged, genre-sprawling modern metalcore proves to be a whirlwind listen. With an underpinned theatrical feel, the Wylde sisters have a swagger about them. Tracks such as\u00a0‘Living Ded,’<\/em>\u00a0‘Omens’<\/em> and ‘Infrared’ <\/em>showcase their pop-metal capabilities. While ‘Priestess’<\/em> is venomous in its execution.<\/p>\n

Bristolian noise collective\u00a0Knives<\/strong> rework a selection from this year’s debut album, ‘GLITTER’, with the first of a two-EP set\u00a0titled ‘REGLITTER<\/em><\/span>‘<\/em>. Part One consists of a mix of reimagined and unreleased cuts. Among them is the dizzying rush of\u00a0‘SUGAR’<\/em>, which features Carson Pace from\u00a0Knives<\/strong>‘ upcoming tour mates,\u00a0The Callous Daoboys<\/strong>. Whereas\u00a0‘The Dagger’\u00a0<\/em>sees\u00a0Death Goals<\/strong> add an experimental layer.<\/p>\n

For Manchester-based instrumentalists,\u00a0Civil Service<\/strong>,\u00a0‘DARK \/\/\/’<\/em> narratively follows up last year’s ‘\u2018\/\/\/ LIGHT\u2019<\/em>. While the latter looked for purpose, its sequel casts a shadow of bleak inevitability. While their post-rock foundations remain throughout, tracks such as\u00a0‘URBNDCY,’ ‘The Heurist,’ <\/em>and ‘Turn Out The Light’<\/em> prove to be expansive and muscular. It allows the quartet, along with several guest spots (Overheard The Albatross<\/strong>,\u00a0Hidden Mothers<\/strong>,\u00a0Blackshape<\/strong>), to create a compelling and textured record that neatly plays into its intended narrative.<\/p>\n

Dropper<\/strong> are a band that hails from Aotearoa, Wellington in New Zealand. Their debut album,\u00a0‘Be a Little Kinder,’<\/em> is charged by the emotional songwriting of Jude Savage. Completed by Walter Martin (drums), Carlos Bellamy (guitar), and Toby Gracewood-Easther (bass),\u00a0Dropper<\/strong> find a comfortable balance of writing anthemic rock songs with an intimate mindset. It results in a record that tonally leans into emo- and alt-rock influences, providing the young band a solid foundation moving forward.<\/p>\n
