Supplied by Hold Tight!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"mol\">M\u00d8L &#8211; Young<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/mol-dreamcrush\/\">Having revealed details of their long-awaited new album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;DREAMCRUSH,&#8217;<\/em><\/a> last month, Danish metallers <strong>M\u00d8L<\/strong> shared the record&#8217;s second single this week.\u00a0<em>&#8216;Young&#8217;<\/em> sees the quintet dive into familiar territory; sharp black metal. With\u00a0Kim Song Sternkopf throat-shredding screams leading <strong>M\u00d8L<\/strong>&#8216;s dense pursuit, it&#8217;s momentarily broken up by glistening, rising guitars. Bringing together assured brutality with beauty, it&#8217;s a visceral taster of\u00a0<em>&#8216;<i>DREAMCRUSH&#8217;<\/i><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0<em>&#8216;Young&#8217;<\/em> is a new track, for M\u00d8L guitarist Nicolai Busse, its origins stretch back over a decade. <em>&#8220;\u2019Young&#8217; is a song that has travelled through time. The chorus is one of the first pieces of music that I wrote for M\u00d8L back in 2012, at a time when I was living outside Denmark,&#8221;<\/em> explains Busse. <em>&#8220;I have returned to it a number of times throughout the years, but I was never able to make it right. So it was only when revisiting it for this record that it finally clicked in my head, and I was able to write the rest of the music. The first is an 11-minute epic number called\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/tlbPds3HIV0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;What\u2019s Your ETA? Let\u2019s Have A Tear Up&#8217;<\/a><\/em>. The track is dedicated to Palestinian people, with the band encouraging donations to <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.unrwa.org\/int\/en\/general\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNWRA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The second track released,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Would You Like Me To Be The Cat?&#8217;,<\/em> is a calmer offering yet retains the quartet&#8217;s experimental edge. Utilising atmospheric layers,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Would You Like Me To Be The Cat?&#8217;<\/em> unravels itself across six-plus minutes, with reverberating guitars throughout.<\/p>\n<p>Having <em>&#8220;done the whole \u201cEndless Space Doom\u201d thing to death&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>(according\u00a0<strong>Sugar Horse<\/strong> themselves), both new tracks begin a new chapter for the band. \u201cSometimes you\u2019ve just gotta pretend to be The Cure, and there\u2019s no better time than the present. We wanted to come back with something new and something grand. I think with both of these tunes you can see little peaks of the ideas we have in store for folks in the coming years,\u201d the band shared when discussing their new material. They also shared what <em>&#8216;Would You Like Me To Be The Cat?&#8217; <\/em>is about.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLyrically this song is about how confusing this silly and terrible world we live in is. How living at the centre of Empire can make you feel crazy\/ill\/abhorrent, simply for believing things that are morally righteous, or even just factually true. Good people are smeared with shit every day for simply stating what they believe to be just. The Wonder Years<\/h2>\n<p><em>&#8216;Lfers Too&#8217;<\/em> originally appeared\u00a0<strong>Spanish Love Songs<\/strong>&#8216;\u00a0<em>&#8216;No Joy Sessions&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>EP this past summer. However, it&#8217;s been given a new lease of life thanks to <strong>The Wonder Years<\/strong>\u2019 Dan \u201cSoupy\u201d Campbell.<\/p>\n<p>As the opening track on\u00a0<strong>Spanish Love Songs<\/strong> just-released <i>&#8216;A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time&#8217;<\/i> EP, it sees frontman Dylan Slocum carry the weight of the world on his shoulders in his usual reflective manner. He goes on to direct his anger at his parents\u2019 generation while feeling guilty about his own generation. It&#8217;s complemented by jangly guitars and crystal synth keys.<\/p>\n<p>As for Campbell&#8217;s cameo, it is the result of a relationship between the band and <strong>The Wonder Years<\/strong> vocalist that has blossomed in recent years. <em>\u201cVery few people have championed us as much as he has over the past 5 years,<\/em>&#8221; says\u00a0<strong>Spanish Love Songs<\/strong>&#8216; Slocum. <em>&#8220;I\u2019m forever grateful that he\u2019s become a friend, and more importantly, someone whose work pushes me to try to be better.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For Dan \u201cSoupy\u201d Campbell, the chance to work with\u00a0<strong>Spanish Love Songs<\/strong> was a no-brainer.\u00a0<em>\u201cI love this song and I love this band. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever said yes to a feature so quickly,\u201d<\/em> he explains. <em>\u201cThe way that Dylan and Spanish Love Songs capture the decay at the heart of the American facade is singular and haunting, and I\u2019m honoured to lend my voice to it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Spanish Love Songs &quot;Lifers Too&quot; (ft. Supplied by Turn The Page LDN.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"karendio\">Karen Di\u00f3 &#8211; I Hope You Know<\/h2>\n<p>Brazilian punk rocker\u00a0<strong>Karen Di\u00f3<\/strong> continues to gain momentum and has delivered another infectious single with <em>&#8216;I Hope You Know&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On the surface, it&#8217;s a pounding, bubbly number with a raw, gritty undertone. However, the London-based <strong>Di\u00f3\u00a0<\/strong>considers the track as &#8220;<em>an awkward love letter and self-diagnosing note&#8221; <\/em>to her unusual behaviour, and her second-guessing if her habits would turn off her eventual husband.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;During the pandemic, I started to notice loads of weird behaviours, like: I can\u2019t stand hearing someone chew. That really freaks me out! That&#8217;s just one example. Around the same time, I met my husband, and our relationship was so perfect that I was worried I would ruin it when he started to learn all my weird things,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0<strong>Karen Di\u00f3<\/strong> shares. <em>&#8220;I wrote this unconventional love song, hoping that he would still love all the sides of me. And while they remain to be DIY as possible, their debut EP sees the three-piece join up with the\u00a0<strong>SharpTone Records<\/strong> roster. Nevertheless, on the evidence of new single\u00a0<em>&#8216;ZZZ&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>that could all change.<\/p>\n<p>Taken from their forthcoming second album, &#8216;<em>Constant Humming,&#8217; &#8216;ZZZ&#8217;<\/em> roars out of the speakers with intent. While 2021&#8217;s\u00a0<em>&#8216;everysinglelittlebit&#8217;<\/em> leaned into their Midwest emo roots, vocalist Thomas Sullivan feels <em>&#8216;ZZZ&#8217;<\/em> is an indication of\u00a0<em>&#8220;a step in a different direction&#8221;<\/em>. We spent a lot of time making sure the way we played and produced it matched that feeling. There are a lot of bends, unresolved progressions \u2014 moments that hold tension. We wanted to create something that doesn\u2019t give everything away too soon. So when the release finally happens, it carries more weight.
