With the Thanksgiving Holiday Stateside, ‘Black Friday’ sales at large, and new episodes of ‘Stranger Things’\u00a0<\/em>released, it’s no surprise that this week’s\u00a0#NewMusicFriday<\/strong> is slightly quieter.<\/p>\n

However, it isn’t a complete write-off. Besides live releases from\u00a0Alexisonfire<\/strong>, Brutus<\/strong>, Dream Theater<\/strong>, Bury Tomorrow<\/strong>, and Citizen<\/strong>, there is new music from These New South Whales<\/strong>,\u00a0downcast<\/strong>,\u00a0Pabst<\/strong>, and male\/\/gaze<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u00a0quartet These<\/strong><\/span> New South Whales’ <\/strong>fourth full-length outing,\u00a0‘GODSPEED’<\/em>, expands their stylistic scope. Across its eleven tracks,\u00a0TNSW<\/strong> demonstrate spikey indie rock (‘Instinct’<\/em>), rampant post-punk (‘PIG’<\/em>), explosive hardcore punk (‘Be What You Wanna Be’<\/em>\u00a0),\u00a0<\/em>and new wave-meets-Britpop (‘Godspeed’<\/em>).\u00a0There’s also the aching power ballad\u00a0‘Nobody Listens’<\/em>. It makes for an often thrilling listen, threaded together with a narrative of self-assurance.<\/p>\n

If you want some heavy melodic rock,\u00a0downcast<\/strong>‘s\u00a0‘Nothing Left To Give’<\/em> EP might be of interest. The Bristolian band serve up a short but sharp set of songs. The title track, along with\u00a0‘home’<\/em> allows them to showcase a bold and energetic sound that continues to evolve. Matched by massive hooks, the second half of the EP sees them leave their stamp on tracks from the Backstreet Boys (‘Just Want You To Know‘<\/em>) and My Chemical Romance (‘I Don’t Love You’<\/em>).<\/p>\n

German trio PABST\u00a0<\/strong>are equally energetic.\u00a0‘This is normal now’<\/em> is a collection of observational rock with a growing sonic astuteness. From the fuzz-laden ‘Limbo No. 5’\u00a0<\/em>to the dizzying\u00a0‘Song on the Radio’<\/em> through to\u00a0‘Heavy Metal Junk Island’<\/em>s distorted riffs, and to the reflective title track, it’s a record that embraces the chaotic world that it’s been inspired by. While collaborations with\u00a0DZ Deathrays, Snake Eyes, and Blush Always are more than merely fleeting guest spots.<\/p>\n

“Extreme pop” collective male\/\/gaze\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>leave their mark with their\u00a0‘Too Late Now’<\/em> EP. With plenty of emotional and musical depth on show, the Pacific Northwest quintet utilise cathartic shoegaze, pounding post-hardcore, glitchy electronica, and soaring pop melodies. Moments like the chaotic\u00a0‘Slaymaxxing’<\/em> being paired with the soothing\u00a0‘Speak (For Me)’\u00a0<\/em>are pulled off well, emphasising their depth. While tracks such as\u00a0‘Returning,’<\/em> and\u00a0‘Get Well’<\/em> showcase their explosive dynamism.<\/p>\n

With it being a less busy week, it gives brand new names to be spotlighted. For example, there is the debut EP from anonymous alternative metal artist\u00a0No Love<\/strong>.\u00a0‘Are You Ready For More?’<\/em> is three tracks of high-octane modern metalcore that is reminiscent of Bad Omens and Bring Me The Horizon. While lyrically inspired by tales of trauma, songs such as\u00a0‘Bad Habits’<\/em> and the synth-led\u00a0‘Bad Habits’<\/em> aim to build a world involving a toxic relationship between the No Love Bunny and No Love Bear.<\/p>\n

Fellow debutants Indecision<\/strong> hail from Bristol and cite the likes of Deftones, Basement, and The Smashing Pumpkins as influences. Their new EP, ‘Vol. 1’<\/em>, rounds off their first year as a band with six tracks showcasing a raw brand of alt-rock. Tracks such as\u00a0‘Draw Me Under’<\/em> and\u00a0‘Loud and Clear’<\/em> thrive on a dense grunginess, only to be countered by gentle and bittersweet moments like\u00a0‘Chemicals In Your Kiss’<\/em> and\u00a0‘Haunt’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

You can also hear new music from fast-rising pop-rockers South Arcade<\/strong>, along with\u00a0Harpy<\/strong>, Tickles<\/strong>,\u00a0Paledusk<\/strong>, and Petey USA<\/strong>.\u00a0While The Darkness<\/strong> and EF<\/strong> release 20th anniversary reissues.<\/p>\n
