With plenty of end-of-year lists popping up and office Christmas parties happening, it’s no surprise that this will be the last #NewMusicFriday<\/strong> update of 2025.<\/p>\n

In my opinion, releasing a new album or EP so late in the year is a brave move. However, some names feel confident enough to attempt to grab a spot in your end-of-year list. Among today’s releases,\u00a0HEALTH<\/strong> (released Thu, Dec 11th) continue to solidify their spot at the top of the industrial metal table with their bleak-yet-cathartic sixth album,\u00a0‘CONFLICT DLC’<\/em>.\u00a0<\/em>Read our review of it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fellow Los Angeles group,\u00a0Volumes<\/strong>, digitally drop their new album,\u00a0‘Mirror Touch’<\/em> today. Despite line-up changes throughout their decade-and-a-half of activity, the quartet have comfortably found their spot. Lying somewhere between progressive metal and metalcore, their latest outing offers some promising moments. For instance,\u00a0‘Sidewinder’<\/em> is a rampant, monstrous opener, shuddering with intent.\u00a0‘Bad Habits’<\/em> and\u00a0‘S.O.A.P’<\/em> are also noteworthy tracks. Yet for all the chunky, groove-laden riffs, tracks such as ‘California’<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0‘Stitch’<\/em> comeoff as routine modern metalcore. Thankfully,\u00a0‘Suffer On’\u00a0<\/em>(featuring Black Sheep Wall) provides one final meaty blast in what is mostly an indifferent record.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, German “genre-fluid” rockers Lord of the Lost<\/strong> end the year with the second volume of their ‘OPVS NOIR’<\/em> trilogy.\u00a0 Derby’s alt-rock-pop maestros LostAlone\u00a0<\/strong>pull together fan-favourites and rarities on\u00a0‘Memories Under A Microscope’<\/em>. Whereas\u00a0Irish math-rockers Adebisi Shank<\/strong> have treated fans with a surprise Christmas album.<\/p>\n

If you’re looking for rap\/rock to kick off your weekend, then Zero 9:36<\/strong>‘s ‘They Were Always Here’<\/em> is one for you. Kansas pop-punks Stay The Course<\/strong> bring a fair amount of “easycore” intensity on their debut album, ‘Red Flag’<\/em>. Meanwhile, hardcore legends Converge<\/strong> have released their\u00a0‘Audiotree From Nothing’<\/em> session. It comes as they prepare to release their new album, ‘Love Is Not Enough,’<\/em> on February 13th. Whereas\u00a0Thrice<\/strong> have put their name to an EP of lo-fi reworkings from\u00a0Less Gravity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
