It saw the quartet establish their mix of strong hooks and sentimental coming-of-age tales, something that\u00a0<em>&#8216;Barely Here&#8217;<\/em> homes in on. <em>\u201cA lot of bands think their second album has to be this magnum opus epic that sews so many things together, and I think we\u2019d actually taken more of that approach with our first LP. \u201d<\/em> explains vocalist Joey Chiaramonte. <em>\u201cSo with Barely Here we wanted to do the opposite of that trajectory\u2013we wanted to refine our strengths instead of doing this purposeful departure. With\u00a0<em>&#8216;Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After?&#8217;<\/em> set to be released on March 13th via\u00a0<strong>Pure Noise<\/strong>, the quartet has shared another track from the album,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Youthfully Naive&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The track is a prime example of\u00a0<strong>Shoreline<\/strong>&#8216;s bold, melodic style mixed with a hardcore punk edge.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as the band kick off a run of UKshows supporting <strong>Arm&#8217;s Length<\/strong> this week. It&#8217;s called\u00a0<em>&#8216;Hoopla&#8217;<\/em> and will be released on May 1st via\u00a0<strong>Sub Pop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As a taster, he&#8217;s released a track called\u00a0<em>&#8216;Might See You There&#8217;<\/em>. It highlights Edkins&#8217; melodic, almost power-pop, nous, pairing it with an introspective narrative of his younger days.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;\u2018Might See You There\u2019 is about going back to visit my hometown and being flooded with teenage nostalgia. Small-town boredom and isolation almost feel like a gift in today&#8217;s highly connected world,&#8221;<\/em> Alex shares. <em>&#8220;I feel fortunate for that time spent idly, down in the basement, learning the entire Rancid &#8216;Let&#8217;s Go&#8217; album on guitar with my friends. I find it easy to romanticise that time in my life, even though I was, without question, a disgruntled kid who badly wanted to escape my surroundings and see the world.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alex also commented on the influences behind the track, and what he and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Machines With Magnets&#8217;<\/em> studio owner, Seth Manchester, wanted to achieve on the track.\u00a0<em>\u201cI was listening to a lot of the Irish bands The Undertones and Protex while writing this one, and I think there is a fair bit of their influence. Just the simplicity and big bar chords mostly.\u00a0Seth Manchester and I were very into the idea of adding piano and bells to the outro, akin to the Phil Spector-produced End of the Century album by The Ramones.
