Their new single, <i>&#8216;in your eyes,&#8217;<\/i> is the latest addition to that arsenal of tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Its pensive build is a contrast to the energetic side shown on <a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/the-daily-drop-january-28th-2026\/#the-xcerts-do-it-to-myself\"><i>\u2018do it to myself\u2019<\/i><\/a> in January. Lyrically, it sees vocalist and guitarist Murray Macleod at his most reflective, writing an emotionally devasting number.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;&#8216;in your eyes&#8217; is without question the most raw and personal song we\u2019ve ever written. Fundamentally, it\u2019s about loss. The loss of what I deemed to be forever love and the cruelty of cancer. The closing lines of the song are \u2018this isn\u2019t goodbye, this is I\u2019ll love you forever\u2019 which serves as a full stop but also has an open-ended feel to it,&#8221;<\/i> shares Macleod. <i>&#8220;It\u2019s a desperate grieving cry, but while writing the words, I also thought, well, if this is the last thing we ever create then that\u2019s the message I want to ring out in Jordan, Tom and our fan base\u2019 ears. I\u2019m aware it\u2019s overly sincere, but it\u2019s true, and the truth is all we wanted to convey. Over the past decade, <b>Gouge Away<\/b> have evolved their sound from their unhinged hardcore roots, adding in melodies and elements of noise-rock. On their new single, the quintet sounds as sharp and versatile as ever with Christina Michelle&#8217;s agile voice at its core.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201c&#8217;Figurine&#8217; is the first song we finished with Theo Hartlett (Ovlov, Pet Fox), a friend of ours who has been touring with us on guitar. We wrote this song while on tour last fall and it came together so easily. I went into writing the lyrics with an entirely different idea in mind, but these spilled out of me on one of the drives,&#8221;<\/i> says Christina on writing <i>&#8216;Figurine&#8217;<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Before the tour, I was digitizing home videos, having to see myself as a kid from an outside perspective. I knew I was shy, a people-pleaser, and all these things, but it was different to watch it on film. I was always afraid of disappointing people so I made myself small and rarely acted outside of this little box I found myself in. Instead of getting into trouble like most kids, I didn\u2019t really break out of my comfort zone until much more recently. I thought I had to work really hard to be loved. I stretch myself so thin to please everyone else that it winds up being the expectation. I found people who love me, even when I am a messy trainwreck, and that toppled my entire reality. And yet, there\u2019s still this little kid inside of me who is afraid of upsetting her parents. We recorded this song live to tape in Portland at Jackpot! Set to be released through <b>RPM<\/b>, the album promises to expand <b>Williams<\/b>&#8216; sonic world. As her new single, <i>&#8216;Hold It Together&#8217;<\/i> showcases, <b>Williams<\/b>&#8216; looks set to deliver an immersive record, full of restraint and vulnerable moments.<\/p>\n<p>Discussing <i>&#8216;Hold It Together,&#8217;<\/i> <b>Williams<\/b> says <i>\u201cSilence exists where you long for answers, a bleak fragility that you daren\u2019t disturb. Where beauty stood only the faintest glow remains, afraid of smothering it you shrink into a mould of your own making. Your edges dulled, your features disappearing, you put on that brave face not knowing whether you do it to protect others or yourself. By digging in and sitting with themselves, an internal conflict is revealed, one they may have been resisting or unconsciously rationalizing for years.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The record is considered to consist of three parts. In addition to the main album, <i>&#8216;The Moth \u2013 The Afterlife&#8217;<\/i> hones in on the orchestral and choir performances from the North Netherlands\u2019 Orchestra and Choir.
