\nIf you\u2019ve ever had the pleasure of seeing Red City Radio<\/b> live, or have listened to either of their previous two full-lengths or handful of EPs and split singles, then you\u2019ll know exactly what to expect from the Oklahoma juggernaut. <\/figure>\n

Indeed, perhaps the biggest surprise about \u2018Red City Radio\u2019<\/i> is that the band has barely missed a beat following the departure of vocalist\/guitarist Paul Pendley last year. However, as Pendley so eloquently put it on his blog following his departure, it means Garrett Dale is still on duty to \u201csing you to sleep\u201d<\/i>. Naturally, when you have such a gravelly, lived-in voice as Dale\u2019s, it\u2019s likely to give you nightmares, but in Red City Radio<\/b> it\u2019s the perfect lead for their blue-collar rabble-rousing anthems \u2013 and \u2018Red City Radio\u2019<\/i> is brimming with them. <\/p>\n

<\/figure>\n

Like a big-rig cruising down Route 66, \u2018Red City Radio\u2019<\/i> takes a couple of tracks to get going, but by the time \u2018Stranger\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Two Out of Three Ain\u2019t Rad\u2019<\/i> (yes, I did a fist pump when I saw the song title too\u2026) roll around, it\u2019s pretty much unstoppable. And then there\u2019s \u2018Electricity\u2019<\/i>; a huge sing-along which is essentially one long chorus. It\u2019s what Red City Radio<\/b> do best and it\u2019ll leave you beaming from ear-to-ear. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere, the pace drops for the mid-paced stomps of \u2018Let Me In\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Pretend Kings\u2019<\/i>, but they still retain that chest-beating, fist in the air vibe that characterizes Red City Radio\u2019s<\/b> approach to making music, while closer \u2018\u2026I\u2019ll Catch A Ride\u2019<\/i> just begs you to grab a beer, hug a stranger and sing every word back. <\/p>\n

Sometimes, it\u2019s easy to overthink music, and get lost in praising brilliant musicianship or songwriting. Red City Radio<\/b> will never win any songwriting awards (indeed, on \u2018In the Meantime\u2019<\/i> Dale barks \u201cI just wanna get high and play my fucking guitar\u201d<\/i>, and that pretty much sums up Red City Radio<\/b>) but it doesn\u2019t really matter as \u2018Red City Radio\u2019<\/i> is just so monumentally enjoyable. It\u2019s the sort of album that is made for road trips, to kick off a party or get you set for a night out. It\u2019s simple, it\u2019s unashamed of what it is and its limitations, and it\u2019s all the better for it. The best thing to say is switch off your brain and play it real fucking loud. You won\u2019t regret it\u2026 <\/p>\n
