Having previously provided support for The Dillinger Escape Plan and Every Time I Die, their peers\u2019 influences are evident, but <strong>Murdock<\/strong> have a secret ingredient \u2013 transitioning between deadly whispers and punishing screams with consummate ease. Forgivably sounding as if each riff were the output of a dozen guitarists, the three piece have broken onto the scene with an almighty bang.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s a crystal clear experimental bravery throughout <em>\u2018Dead Lung\u2019<\/em>, as menacing whispers blend into screams effortlessly during <em>\u2018I Am Not A Continent\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018What You Don\u2019t Like\u2019<\/em>. <em>\u201cRedefine me,\u201d<\/em> begs the former, characteristic of their genre-smashing outlook. Through the resignation of <em>\u2018The Signal In The Noise\u2019<\/em>, the racing fretwork of <em>\u2018Old Blood Dead Lung\u2019<\/em> and the devastating doom riffs of <em>\u2018Brain Face\u2019<\/em>, <strong>Murdock<\/strong> already showcase an arsenal of tricks up their sleeve. The driven chants and unfettered energy of <em>\u2018Verbalectomy\u2019<\/em> frame an astounding solo that should\u2019ve lasted an awful lot longer.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDoes logic fail you?\u201d<\/em>, vocalist Aidan Cunningham wails through <em>\u2018Deer Noises\u2019<\/em>. Ironically, logic remains fully distant from <em>\u2018Dead Lung\u2019<\/em>, as melodic interludes amid the abrasive chaos depict <strong>Murdock<\/strong>\u2019s mastery of near-impossible contrast. The deadly <em>\u2018What You Don\u2019t Like\u2019<\/em> demonstrates a swaying, rousing aspect to their disorganised, disillusioned cacophony. There are few obstacles standing in their way, and diversity is certainly not one of them. <\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI don\u2019t care about the small town politics,\u201d<\/em> screams <em>\u2018Erk\u2019<\/em>, ultimately defining <strong>Murdock<\/strong>\u2019s stance, as if the hardcore blood running through their veins wasn\u2019t enough. Ronan Nolan\u2019s jaw-dropping drums deserve high praise for somehow controlling the pandemonium.<\/p>\n<p>Album highlight <em>\u2018Narrowcasting\u2019<\/em> presents an attractively sinister downturn, allying with seductive closer <em>\u2018Monographia\u2019<\/em> to suggest the trio have both ends of the tempo spectrum covered, to the extent that <em>\u2018Leave Me Here For The Crows\u2019 extends this dalliance toward a subdued, almost melodic atmosphere.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With astounding versatility, <strong>Murdock<\/strong>\u2019s debut has proved they\u2019re ready for success.
