Forming in 2011 and leaving an irresistible trail of bandanas behind them, <strong>Harlot<\/strong> had us hooked from the first keys of <em>&lsquo;Denial\u2019<\/em>, and they\u2019ve already set their sights for the Download Festival stage this summer. Vocalist Danny Worsnop\u2019s Asking Alexandria days are behind him, but his familiar bruising growls linger for a time. Not enough to outstay their welcome but just enough to make you plead for more.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Infectious and seductive, opener <em>\u2018Dancing On Nails\u2019<\/em> proves that <strong>Harlot<\/strong> definitely have something worth exploring. Followed by the heart-stopping riffs of <em>\u2018Dirty Little Thing\u2019<\/em>, it\u2019s quite possible <strong>Harlot<\/strong> is the most intoxicating and enticing band to blast through your speakers since Def Leppard. Lead single <em>\u2018Denial\u2019<\/em> is as energetic and contagious as they come, demonstrating Danny\u2019s vocal versatility through seductive tones transitioning into guttural growls in an instant. Jeff George\u2019s fretwork is the perfect partner in crime, thrusting familiar Sebastian Bach energy behind every captivating chord.<\/p>\n<p>Slippery when wet, you say? Dripping with sex appeal, <em>\u2018The One\u2019<\/em> is sassy, assertive and downright filthy, but you wouldn\u2019t want it any other way. There\u2019s an incandescent soul driving Danny\u2019s vocals throughout <em>\u2018Easier To Leave\u2019<\/em>, showcasing a raw and gravelly individuality he\u2019s acquired in recent years. Complementing the underground grunge of <em>\u2018One More Night\u2019<\/em>, <em>\u2018Never Turn Back\u2019<\/em> echoes an almost punk defiance, nonchalantly declaring <em>\u201cI don\u2019t mind if you\u2019re gone when the sun comes up\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019ll close my eyes, I\u2019ll follow my feet in hopes that somehow they\u2019ll take me home someday,\u201d<\/em> Danny croons, pouring his soul into the album-stealing ballad <em>\u2018Someday\u2019<\/em>. Heartfelt and contemplative, the drastic mood change attests to <strong>Harlot<\/strong>\u2019s mastery of everything that comes with becoming the new patrons of the classic rock legacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harlot<\/strong>\u2019s free spirit seeps through <em>\u2018Flying Too Close To The Sun\u2019<\/em> through bassist Brian Weaver\u2019s tricksy opening notes. In recent years, rock bands have taken themselves far too seriously, but <strong>Harlot<\/strong> verify that there\u2019s a balance to be struck between radio-worthy energy and raw emotional assertions, and there\u2019s always time to live life as if we die tomorrow. Closing on the reflective acoustic farewell with a welcome Queen-reminiscent solo, <em>\u2018I Tried\u2019<\/em> demonstrates each member can hold their own, but together, they make a harmony worthy of Bon Jovi.<\/p>\n<p>One by one, <strong>Harlot<\/strong> tick every box of classic rock expectations, from the cheeky ode to sexual tension to the compulsory heart-wrenching refrain.
