Amongst the usual barrage of anticipated returns and exciting debuts, there are new releases from <b>ROAM<\/b>, <b>The Front Bottoms<\/b>, <b> Trivium<\/b>, <b>Jamie Lenman<\/b>, <b>The Darkness<\/b>, and <b>August Burns Red<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>However, as always, the <b>Already Heard<\/b> have selected nine other \u201cmust-hear\u201d releases for October. From shock rock comebacks to the intriguing 11th album from one of rock\u2019s most inconsistent bands, to stunning lyricism from indie rock\u2019s finest songwriters of recent years, to down to earth hardcore to dynamic alt-rock, to impassioned pop-punk and more. These nine albums deserve to be played on repeat in the coming weeks.<br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/user\/alreadyhearduk\/playlist\/1ngoO0Ab57sSaigYndjXKW\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/888816065ec8fc4f815ab75e7b825105\/tumblr_ox7ok9ZL5L1r8no6so6_1280.png\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Marilyn Manson &#8211; Heaven Upside Down<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s been ten years since <i>\u2018Eat Me, Drink Me\u2019<\/i> turned <b>Marilyn Manson<\/b> from the most controversial and innovative names in mainstream rock into a schlock romantic with all the threat of a Disney villain. Every album since has seen him cling onto the verge of sustainability with a number of decent songs in collections of vast mediocrity.<\/p>\n<p>While we can\u2019t promise <b>Manson<\/b>\u2019s tenth full-length <i>\u2018Heaven Upside Down\u2019<\/i> will restore the former glories that many fans have grown up with from <i>\u2018Antichrist Superstar\u2019<\/i> to 2000\u2019s game changing <i>\u2018Holy Wood\u2019<\/i>, we are set to receive a record that provides the most substance since 2003\u2019s banger laden <i>\u2018Golden Age of Grotesque.\u2019<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Lead single, <i>\u2018We Know Where You Fucking Live\u2019<\/i>, is an avalanche of attitude that ditches the more formal songwriting that has dominated <b>Manson<\/b>\u2019s later work in favour of untamed aggression in its choruses. Follow-up single <i>\u2018Kill4Me\u2019<\/i> revolves around a flamboyant 70\u2019s disco groove, its sophistication and cinematic flair for dramatics is a continuation of the best parts of 2015\u2019s <i>\u2018The Pale Emperor\u2019<\/i> with a greater injection of personality.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, given the history and legacy <b>Marilyn Manson<\/b> has given our world, a new album is always going to raise attention, but <i>\u2018Heaven Upside Down\u2019<\/i> is set to show the man at his fullest potential, and that\u2019s a prospect to get very excited about. The band had originally planned on creating a darker follow-up to <i>&#8216;The White Album\u2019<\/i> entitled <i>&#8216;The Black Album\u2019<\/i>, but chose to shelve this in favour of what\u2019s shaping up to be a summer record taking considerable influence from The Beach Boys\u2019 early work and aesthetic: <i>&#8216;Pacific Daydream\u2019.<\/i> Why the band chose to slate it for an October release is a mystery, but the aforementioned Beach Boys\u2019 <i>&#8216;Fun, Fun, Fun\u2019<\/i> came out in February, so maybe it\u2019s just always summer in California?<\/p>\n<p>The three songs released from <i>&#8216;Pacific Daydream\u2019<\/i> (so far) are a mixed bag: <i>&#8216;Feels Like Summer\u2019<\/i> is a god-awful electro-radio-pop number; <i>&#8216;Mexican Fender\u2019<\/i> is somewhat fun power-pop that nonetheless pales in comparison to anything on <i>&#8216;The White Album\u2019<\/i>; and <i>&#8216;Beach Boys\u2019<\/i>, despite the title, sounds more like disco than anything The Beach Boys ever recorded.<\/p>\n<p>On the merit of those three singles, it\u2019s unlikely that we\u2019ll see an album as great as last year\u2019s, but here\u2019s hoping <b>Weezer<\/b> keep their heads above (salty beach) water and avoid slipping back into mediocrity. Strangers occupying houses, a desire to be loved, accepting fate, and having a disconnection from their audience are just some of the tales songwriter Mat Kerekes sings about on <i>&#8216;As You Please\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Stylistically, there is a sense of familiarity to their brand of alt-rock as heard on <i>&#8216;Jet\u2019<\/i>. However, <b>Citizen<\/b> show they\u2019re not afraid to be dynamic; the title track is a brooding rumble, <i>&#8216;You Are A Star\u2019<\/i> opens with a haziness and songs such as <i>&#8216;Fever Days\u2019<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Ugly Luck\u2019<\/i> highlight Kerekes\u2019 maturing songwriting. While <i>&#8216;In The Middle Of It All\u2019<\/i> is an early, infectious highlight.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, <i>&#8216;As You Please\u2019<\/i> shows <b>Citizen<\/b>\u2019s growing versatility as musicians and as songwriters. It\u2019s a lyrically engaging record that deserves to be poured over in intricate detail. While bleak on the surface, <i>&#8216;As You Please\u2019<\/i> sees a band full of confidence. Needless to say, these qualities are exactly why <b>Stick To Your Guns<\/b> are one of the most important and celebrated bands in our scene today.<\/p>\n<p>Having gradually evolved from a cult band to a name that carries a degree of weight on the UK live circuit, <b>STYG<\/b> return with their sixth full-length album <i>\u2018True View\u2019<\/i>, It\u2019s set to be an emotional, internalised follow-up to 2015\u2019s call-to-arms on <i>\u2018Disobedient\u2019<\/i> as evidenced from lead single <i>\u2018The Sun, The Moon, The Truth: \u201cPenance of Self\u201d\u2019<\/i>, wherein frontman Jesse Barnett reflects upon a life of selfishness at the cost of loved ones, while <i>\u2018Married to the Noise\u2019<\/i> is a tribute to the hardcore scene wherein he discovered his values and has no plans to abandon.<\/p>\n<p>In a modern society where self-preservation prevails over any sense of community, <i>\u2018True View\u2019<\/i> is <b>Stick To Your Guns\u2019<\/b> challenge to their listeners to reflect on their errors, and embrace their struggles and gain a deeper understanding of the ego and world around them. And it\u2019s a message they\u2019ll hammer into you riff after riff. Recording sessions for the album began at the start of the year, yet midway through they decided to scrap it and start over. They decided to reconnect with <i>&#8216;Copacetic\u2019<\/i> producer Seth Henderson to record what would become <i>&#8216;Shapeshifter\u2019<\/i>. The end result sees the quintet hone in their qualities; impassioned, honest songwriting with tight hooks.<\/p>\n<p>Recent singles, <i>&#8216;Double Helix\u2019<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Gone\u2019<\/i>, certainly back this up. At their core, its unquestionably <b>Knuckle Puck<\/b> at their best; Joe Taylor punk-fuelled vocals, urgent instrumentation with an underlying sense of posivtivity and self-purpose.<\/p>\n<p>With every release, <b>Knuckle Puck<\/b> are growing in a variety of ways; both creatively and personally. <i>&#8216;Shapeshifter\u2019<\/i> has all the ingridiants to see their rise continue. Her blend of alt-rock, dream pop and indie rock is covered by her raw, vulnerable songwriting that is thoroughly compelling.<\/p>\n<p>Now having made the jump to <b>Matador Records<\/b>, its follow-up arrives this month in the form of <i>&#8216;Turn Out the Lights\u2019<\/i>. And if leadoff single, <i>&#8216;Appointments\u2019<\/i>, is anything to go by, Baker is set to once again deliver any set of intimate songs. <i>&#8216;Appointments\u2019<\/i> is a twinkling, introspective number that instantly pulls at the heartstrings.<\/p>\n<p>While its predecessor sees Baker put the focus on her identity, <i>&#8216;Turn Out the Lights\u2019<\/i> reflects on her experiences and those close to her; how mental health struggles affect the relationships with friends and family. Baker\u2019s deeply personal narrative has an ability to connect with listeners; her songs heal all involved &#8211; the listener and Baker.<\/p>\n<p>With the winter nights approaching, <i>&#8216;Turn Out the Lights\u2019<\/i> is sure to be the ideal soundtrack. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Turn Out the Lights\u2019<\/i> by <b>Julien Baker<\/b> is released on 27th October on <b>Matador Records<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Julien Baker<\/b> links: <a href=\"http:\/\/julienbaker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Website<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/julienrbaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julienrbaker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/julienrbaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a>|<a href=\"https:\/\/julienbaker.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bandcamp<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/0242d46506be7e03745efbfdcfceb7e0\/tumblr_ox7ok9ZL5L1r8no6so5_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">My Ticket Home &#8211; unReal<\/h2>\n<p>Anyone who has followed Ohio metal quartet <b>My Ticket Home<\/b> up to this point will recognise how important evolution has been to their sound, as the leap from 2012\u2019s debut full-length <i>\u2018To Create a Cure\u2019<\/i> to 2013\u2019s criminally underrated <i>\u2018Strangers Only\u2019<\/i> proved, as they ditched the then-popular electronic metalcore influences in favour of a rawer production and layers of nu-metal bounce, which contained admirable nods to the past while sounding more energetic than anyone else in their playing field.<\/p>\n<p>Four years later, everyone from Of Mice &amp; Men to Cane Hill has tried to merge nu-metal and metalcore\u2019s defining traits, and <b>MTH<\/b> find themselves aiming for something more ambitious on <i>\u2018unReal.\u2019<\/i> The early 2000\u2019s nostalgia is still present here, you can even see it in the neo-sepia toned music video for <i>\u2018Hyperreal\u2019<\/i> and frontman Nick Giumenti\u2019s vocal performance on the track that could only be influenced by listening to Linkin Park growing up.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside singles <i>\u2018Thrush\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018We All Use\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018unReal\u2019<\/i> still packs enough punch to bring out an intense reaction from any audience, but also has enough refinement that could gain them a whole new fanbase from the US Rock Radio circuit. And it\u2019s about time <b>My Ticket Home<\/b> got their dues. Among their array of clattering and discordant song arrangements, there\u2019s enough gleaming hooks that bore their way into your consciousness, such as the title track\u2019s refrains of <i>\u201cdead men tell no tales\/dead men talk no shit\u201d<\/i>, which are sure to incite carnage at any live show.<\/p>\n<p>As the boys club status quo that has troubled hardcore for the better part of the last decade continues to be challenged, a band like <b>Sharptooth<\/b> is a valuable asset to our community, as they seek rectitude towards marginalized voices in aggressive music, while out-aggressing everyone around them in the process. Confrontational, in-your-face and refuting the needs of any gentle metaphors getting in the way of the hard truth of their message.<\/p>\n<p>After using those ideas to devastating effect on last year\u2019s <i>\u2018Seeing Hell\u2019<\/i>, <b>Left Behind<\/b> are back for round two on the 27th when their second full-length <i>\u2018Blessed By the Burn\u2019<\/i> is released. <i>\u2018Tough Love\u2019<\/i> itself is a good indicator for the sonic punishment that lies ahead, with Hatfield\u2019s vocals recalling Corey Taylor at his most feral, as the rest of the band lash out with arrangements inspired by hardcore, sludge and thrash metal. Played with a rawness that makes you feel like you\u2019re in the middle of a circle with each member playing around you, <b>Left Behind<\/b> have a directness that at times feels claustrophobic.<\/p>\n<p>Exploring themes of emotional trauma, and mental deterioration brought on by abuse and experiencing the suicide of loved ones, <i>\u2018Blessed By the Burn\u2019<\/i> is a record that holds nothing back, and could be one of the boldest and unflinching albums to come out this year. Don\u2019t sleep on this record, because <b>Left Behind<\/b> are about to take hardcore by storm.
