\nThe challenge of compiling the hits of Billy Talent<\/strong> lies in which era of fans it alienates. Luckily, \u2018Hits\u2019<\/em> divides its time as equally as possible between the band\u2019s four timeless releases. A Billy Talent<\/b> set list in one release, complete with two new tracks, \u2018Hits\u2019<\/em> thankfully meets every dedicated fan\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n

Opening with the uncoordinated punk angst of \u2018Try Honesty\u2019<\/em>, this collection cleverly prioritises chronology as opposed to shuffling a wide-spanning track listing in order to clearly see their development. Roof-raising anthem \u2018Red Flag\u2019<\/em> stands shoulder to shoulder with set list favourites \u2018Devil In A Midnight Mass\u2019<\/em> and \u2018Fallen Leaves\u2019<\/em> to take pride of place in the rankings of what fans and the band itself considers their indomitable highlights.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The omissions of the contagious \u2018Burn The Evidence\u2019<\/em> and rousing \u2018The Navy Song\u2019<\/em> can be forgiven due to the statistical bias toward \u2018Billy Talent II\u2019<\/em>, as can the focus shift away from the not-so-iconic third release, disregarding the likes of \u2018White Sparrows\u2019<\/em> and \u2018The Dead Can\u2019t Testify\u2019<\/em>. Had the compilation stuck vehemently to the tracks receiving the best crowd response, it might as well have been a re-release of their second album.<\/p>\n

2012\u2019s \u2018Dead Silence\u2019<\/em> is well represented by 3 tracks, most notably the driving \u2018Viking Death Match\u2019<\/em> and chant-inducing \u2018Surprise Surprise\u2019<\/em> make the cut as with the majority of their set lists. <\/p>\n

Two new tracks complete the compilation, with \u2018Kingdom Of Zod\u2019<\/em> showcasing Billy Talent<\/b> at their relentlessly energetic peak and \u2018Chasing The Sun\u2019<\/em>, a subdued existential reflection demonstrating the ceaseless maturity the band have acquired.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t consider discarding your Billy Talent<\/strong> CD collection under the assumption this hits every note \u2013 it hits the best ones, but their consistently flawless career could never fit on one compilation.<\/p>\n
