Taking pages from their history and tearing them apart in front of us, their fourth studio album <em>\u2018Dear Youth\u2019<\/em> is the grittiest yet reflective we\u2019ve seen the LA 5-piece.<\/p>\n<p>2 years since their last musical foray, <strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong> have bottled all their contagious energy and anger, then spilled it all out into <em>\u2018Dear Youth\u2019<\/em> to create pure, unadulterated emotional carnage. An 11-track long anthem to the mistakes of yesterday but the defiance of today and the victories of tomorrow, this is the best <strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong> have sounded to date. <\/p>\n<p>Crammed full of inspirational lyrics, roof-raising singalongs and face-melting riffs, <em>\u2018Dear Youth\u2019<\/em> takes one look at the boundaries of metalcore and smashes them effortlessly, adapting their trademark emotion-driven style to a semi-concept record &#8211; a brave step in the right direction for a band whose only way is straight to the top.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The lullaby opening line of <em>\u2018Avalanche\u2019<\/em> presents frontman Jonathan Vigil\u2019s consistent guttural uncleans harmonising with echoing cleans. <em>\u201cYou wrecked this city but not my will\u201d<\/em> demonstrates a reinforced, rebuilt and reenergised <strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong>. About ruddy time. Screamalongs ahoy with <em>\u2018Move Me\u2019<\/em>s philosophical lyricism, and relentless defiance runs through the veins of <em>\u2018Dear Youth\u2019<\/em> while a Machine Head-esque punishing riff blasts through the gang vocals of <em>\u2018My Endnote\u2019<\/em>. Accompanied by spine-tingling riffs and melodic tangents, <em>\u2018Out Of Control\u2019<\/em> delivers an inspirational, tattoo-worthy philosophy to live by \u2013 <em>\u201cwalk in these shoes before you trample my feet\u201d<\/em>. The immense gang vocals throughout should generate a jaw-dropping crowd response at live shows, it won\u2019t be long before we\u2019re hearing entire crowds belting <em>\u201cforce fed and misled, but not me, I see red\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Butler from letlive. storms into <em>\u2018Wide Eyed\u2019<\/em> to forge a fantastic contrast with Vigil\u2019s razor-sharp tongue &#8211; <em>\u201cyour prying hands can\u2019t lift that chip off your shoulder\u201d<\/em> is utterly inspired. <em>\u2018Mercy\u2019<\/em>s well-disguised cry for help throws an immense nod to Metallica\u2019s <em>\u201cfor whom the bell tolls\u201d<\/em> without compromising an iota of style and atmosphere. The crowd-rousing knockout track <em>\u2018With The Wolves\u2019<\/em> only further demonstrates <strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong>\u2019s mastery at creating anthemic, larger-than-life screamalongs in a scene of impenetrable, inaudible lyrics. In contrast, however, the heart-wrenching <em>\u2018Phoenix Flame\u2019<\/em> presents a poignant atmospheric turn for the band, which they adapt to effortlessly. The beautifully solemn string backing appeals to fans of the slow numbers, but a strong element of their defiance remains \u2013 <em>\u201cit\u2019s a long fall from the top, can you stand it?\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Relentless, game-changing, astounding. <strong>The Ghost Inside<\/strong> pulled out all the stops for <em>\u2018Dear Youth\u2019<\/em> and every risk paid off.
