The sheer volume of punk bands coming up in the UK now is astounding, and, as a result, trying to stand out from the herd could mean the difference between success and fading into obscurity. One such band teetering on this precipice is Norwich four-piece Ducking Punches<\/b>, with the upcoming release of their third album, \u2019Alamort\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n

With Dan Allen\u2019s emotive lyrical style and densely packed instrumentation, there\u2019s a strong echo of bands such as Luca Brasi and Gnarwolves, particularly on \u2019With Unfounded Hope\u2019<\/i>. These influences are apparent across the whole record, with \u2019Smoking Spot\u2019<\/i>, \u2019Missing You Is Killing Me\u2019<\/i>, and \u2019Sobriety\u2019<\/i> all sounding like high quality emulations of other bands. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That being said, it\u2019s very hard to dislike \u2019Alamort\u2019<\/i>. At its core, the album is emotional, but relatable. Lyrically, it\u2019s incredibly grounded, and doesn\u2019t deal in a whole lot of metaphor. Not only this, it\u2019s almost cheeky. Personality ebbs from every component at play here, adding a touch of humanity to the emotional element, grounding it further. All this is present on \u2019The Club with No Name\u2019<\/i> in particular, one of the most memorable tracks on the whole album.<\/p>\n

\u2019I Ruin Everything\u2019<\/i> is the stand out track from \u2019Alamort\u2019<\/i>, and sees the band change the pace and give the album some breathing room, showing what they can do with some emo influence. However, this is followed by the closer, \u2019I Was Uncomfortable\u2019<\/i>, an atmospheric track that piques interest at the beginning, but doesn\u2019t really amass to anything spectacular as a final track.<\/p>\n

With their influences on their sleeves, Ducking Punches<\/b><\/p>\n

have crafted an album that has some high peaks and some disappointing troughs. The emotive songwriting is perhaps what\u2019s most captivating on \u2019Alamort\u2019<\/i>, with there surely being something for everyone on there.<\/p>\n
