From touring with Black Veil Brides, through creating their own label <strong>Goremount Records<\/strong>, to establishing a subscription social network (The Obsidian Bond,) the London five piece are aiming for total domination. <em>\u2018Unbreakable Hearts\u2019<\/em>, the follow-up concept album to their previous <em>\u2018Militia Of The Lost\u2019<\/em>, proves that much like their namesakes, placing <strong>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/strong> into a box is a perilous venture. The merging of heavy metal, punk and symphonic rock occurs seamlessly, only this time, <strong>FVK<\/strong> have thankfully dropped most of the previously overplayed vampire ethos in favour of a more accessible concept of conflict and defiance.<\/p>\n<p>Mirroring the standalone legacy of its successor, each track on <em>\u2018Unbreakable Hearts\u2019<\/em> holds its own, allowing for seamless accessibility to what could easily have been an overworked concept album. Split into four 4-track-long chapters &#8211; Exile, Loss, Recovery and War \u2013 <strong>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/strong> continue the tale of the fictional war-torn city of Grandomina, but could this lengthy 17-track chapter be the last in the story?<\/p>\n<p>Emotive cries doing battle with punchy vengeance in <em>\u2019Say What You Want From Me\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018Remember My Name\u2019<\/em> create a standoff against an emotional enemy as well as the villains beyond the gates of Grandomina. Recreating a diverse process of feelings surrounding both emotional and physical conflict, the singalong and vibrant solo of <em>\u2018Turn Your Heaven To A Tomb\u2019<\/em> contrasts beautifully with the mournful reflections of <em>\u2018Our Nature\u2019s Unnatural \u2018<\/em>.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/strong>\u2019 evident influence from <em>\u2018Three Cheers\u2019<\/em>-era My Chemical Romance emerges with incandescent vengeance through the contagious <em>\u2019Edge Of Eternity\u2019<\/em>, while the title track <em>\u2019Unbreakable Hearts\u2019<\/em> takes a stand that long term fans will love. <i>&lsquo;The Recovery&rsquo;<\/i> chapter captures all the catchiest hooks of the singles <em>\u2019Neon In The Dance Halls\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2019Batten Down The Hatches\u2019<\/em>, forging two of their greatest sing-alongs and powerful riffs in quick succession.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2019Dream Of You\u2019<\/em> is one of the most haunting ballads to emerge from the scene in a long time, reminiscent of The Cure mashed beautifully with Guns \u2018n\u2019 Roses with an unforgettable lyric &#8211; <em>&ldquo;if you live in a dream, you\u2019ll forget how to scream&rdquo;<\/em>. For fans of the slower, melodic approach, <em>\u2018Brave The Night\u2019<\/em> is the black sheep in the grand scheme of the record, but stands tall on its own to prove <strong>FVK<\/strong>\u2019s atmospheric talents.<\/p>\n<p>The album\u2019s only let-down is the overdramatic <em>\u2018Lucifer\u2019s Shroud\u2019<\/em>, completely missing its storytelling target, but is thankfully salvaged by the next track, where <em>\u2018City Falls To Dust\u2019<\/em> closes this episode of Grandomina\u2019s destructive tale with a bang \u2013 literally. What does this mean for the city, or worse, the band? To be continued\u2026 no doubt.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Unbreakable Hearts\u2019<\/em> is without doubt the best <strong>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/strong> have ever sounded in the studio, with heart-wrenching defiant vocals accompanied by a sturdy concept and great instrumentals.
