\"image\"Hailing from Doset down on the South coast, metal band Beneath Dead Waves<\/strong> have released their debut full length, \u2018Inertia\u2019<\/em>. Having had line up changes, the band have settled after seven years and managed to get their heads down to release a full eight track full length in the concrete jungle of London.<\/p>\n

The album opens with the track \u2018Nemacyst\u2019<\/em>, evoking images of filth and pestilence. The track delivers harking back to classic metal of the old days. It slowly builds before massive drums and stabs lead to a chugging riff, rundowns and solos. There is also a soothing solo in the middle of the song creating a nice contrast. Although at just under eight minutes long, I struggled to keep my attention focused.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the release is the track \u2018Inertia\u2019<\/em>. This is a lot calmer with a greater use of melodies, riffs and cleaner vocals. However, it again reverts back to those chugging riffs and filthy vocals. Again, over eight minutes it began to be repetitive and could have done with some changing up. Despite this, the main riff was strong and very catchy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The track \u2018Imperfect\u2019<\/em> is ironic as it actually came across really well. Being less than five minutes made it a lot more accessible to listen to. It did follow the same structure as the other tracks on the album. It could be considered consistent by the band throughout the album, but can also be predictable and boring. The breakdown of this song is creepy with echoes and a plethora of screams and ghastly moans, definitely effective at creating an atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Beneath Dead Waves<\/strong> have put together a pretty standard opening release. It had parts that were strong but for me it lacked creative consistency for a whole eight tracks. However, after touring for the summer perhaps the next release will be stronger and give them time time to grow as a band.<\/p>\n
