For this edition of “Something For The Weekend”<\/strong>, Already Heard<\/strong>’s Rosie Kerr has decided to put the focus on Jade Tree Records<\/strong>. Formed in Wilmington, Delaware in August 1991 by Darren Walters and Tim Owen, Jade Tree<\/strong> went on to incorporate post-hardcore, noise rock, emo, punk, and experimental music. It\u2019s roster included some of the most influential bands of the last 20 years.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the label put its whole discography on Bandcamp, and Rosie thought it\u2019d be a good time to recommend three vital releases for your weekend listening pleasure.<\/p>\n

Jade Tree<\/strong> is one of my all time favourite record labels, and recently, they put their entire back catalog on Bandcamp<\/a> to stream and download for $5. I could have chosen so many incredible records, Avail<\/strong>, Paint It Black<\/strong>, Cap\u2019n Jazz<\/strong>, Jets To Brazil<\/strong>, and so so many more. However, I chose my big 3, and they\u2019re all must haves. Listen to as many of their records as you possibly can, you won\u2019t be disappointed.<\/p>\n

The Promise Ring – Very Emergency<\/strong>
Although the generally preferred album is \u2018Nothing Feels Good\u2019<\/em>, \u2018Very Emergency\u2019<\/em> has always been my absolute favourite Promise Ring<\/strong> record. It\u2019s entirely flawless from start to finish, not a filler track in sight from ‘Happiness Is All The Rage’<\/em> right down to \u2018All Of My Everythings\u2019<\/em>. I genuinely cannot praise this record enough, and if you\u2019ve bypassed it because of, well, ANYTHING, then please overlook it no longer. As with all the other records, it\u2019s only $5 for download on bandcamp – perfect summer indulgence.<\/p>\n

Kid Dynamite – Shorter, Faster, Louder<\/strong>
Just, the most perfect unadulterated hardcore punk record. Tracks like ‘Cheap Shot Youth Anthem’<\/em> just couldn\u2019t be any better, and I mean that sincerely. I view this record as the greatest of its genre, and challenge more bands to try to reach this apex. Again, only $5 on the Jade Tree<\/strong> Bandcamp and worth every last penny.<\/p>\n

Shorter, Faster, Louder by Kid Dynamite<\/a><\/p>\n

Lifetime – Jersey\u2019s Best Dancers<\/strong>
I struggled here as my favourite Lifetime<\/strong> record is actually the 2007 self titled release. However, Lifetime<\/strong> are one of my favourite bands, and each album is special to me in different ways. ‘Jersey’s Best Dancers’ <\/em>was the last record they released before their \u2018breakup\u2019 and \u2018reformation\u2019, and it\u2019s just bloody great. Like, seriously bloody great. Melodic punk at its absolute finest, tracks like ’25 Cent Giraffes’<\/em> and ‘Cut The Tension’<\/em> make me feel invigorated. Try listening to \u2018Cut The Tension\u2019<\/em> and not singing loudly along to \u201ctonight I\u2019m on my way. She smiles. She holds her head just right, because she knows she\u2019s the one.\u201d<\/em> I wish I could justify how incredible this record is with written word, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s possible. $5, Bandcamp, just do it.<\/p>\n
