Their new album, <em>\u2018Brief Interviews With Hideous Men\u2019,<\/em> is a wonderful, energetic, and passionate punk record that I\u2019m really happy to have in time for summer. <em> \u2018Brief Interviews\u2026\u2019 <\/em> opens with a scream, stops, allows melody to consume everything, and then explodes. The chorus to second track, <em> \u2018In Spite of It All\u2019,<\/em> is a perfect example of what <strong>Leagues Apart<\/strong> have to offer. It\u2019s fast and it\u2019s made for a sing-along \u2013 you even get to pick which vocal line you\u2019re going to hold your drink aloft in honour of. From that point on the band turns down neither the intensity nor general excellence. <em> \u2018I Would Consider John Candy To Be A Noir Actor\u2019<\/em> starts slow, builds beautifully, and ends in fist pumping glory as my pick of the bunch.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty more excellent moments throughout this beast of a record, however. There\u2019s the lightning fast <em> \u2018I Thought You Meant Wales The Country\u2019 <\/em>with vocal breaks, sweet licks, and (this\u2019ll be the last time I mention it for fear of redundancy by the tenth time around) more than ample opportunity to scream along until your voice is a grated, Bale-as-Batman whisper. There\u2019s the driving punk rock pound of <em> \u2018The Confessions of Howard Campbell Jr\u2019<\/em> and the fuzzy bass that carries through the early stages of <em> \u2018I Was Born A Snake Handler, I\u2019ll Die A Snake Handler.\u2019<\/em><!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever heard a gnarlier declaration of <em> \u201cI\u2019m not angry!\u201d <\/em> than that which tears out at the start of <em> \u2018Can I Borrow Your Phone?\u2019 <\/em> then I give you until that same song\u2019s sweet solo to think of it. By the mid-tempo drive of the breakdown, you\u2019ll likely not care anymore anyway. Anyone who listens this far and isn\u2019t thoroughly committed to the cause has a strong will and no heart. Sublime closer <em> \u2018To Know The Night Is To Live In It Forever\u2019 <\/em>lays out one last marvelous melodic moment before <strong>Leagues Apart<\/strong> drop the metaphorical mic and leave a void in the chest that can only be filled by punk rock songs.<\/p>\n<p>5\/5<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Brief Interviews With Hideous Men\u2019<\/em> by <strong>Leagues Apart<\/strong> is out on the 7th of May on <strong>Cats?
