Two years removed from winning the nationwide Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition, the Exeter quintet have toured relentlessly along with appearing at a range of major festivals; Reading and Leeds Festival, Download, and Slam Dunk.<\/p>\n

Now I Divide<\/strong> are set to unleash ‘Last One Standing’<\/em>, a record that has to potential the open new doors for them. From the start you\u2019re welcomed by the band’s brand of anthemic alt-rock that easily puts them in the same category of the likes of Mallory Knox and Young Guns. ‘Follow Me’<\/em> is a bold, grandiose number that captures just what I Divide<\/strong> are about; massive hooks with the lyrics that wear their heart on their sleeves.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

For the most part ‘Last One Standing’<\/em> is a record that doesn\u2019t let up. Lead off single ‘I’m Not Leaving’<\/em> is pulsating with pounding drums playing off Tom Kavanagh\u2019s soaring vocals. Whilst ‘Cold At The Bottom’<\/em> is filled with energy and passion with a neat guitar solo from Henry Selley.<\/p>\n

’27 Down’<\/em> eases things slightly as they take a power ballad-like approach with female vocals courtesy of Rebecca Need-Menear adding to overwhelming pouring of emotion.<\/p>\n

Towards the later stages of ‘Last One Standing’<\/em>, it\u2019s clear I Divide<\/strong> have mastered the trait of writing melodic, catchy alt-rock numbers that have plenty of longevity. ‘Run Away’<\/em> is vigorous in its delivery, whilst ‘Let Go’<\/em> is a late highlight that emphasises the band’s pop sensibilities and melodies.<\/p>\n

The album concludes with ‘Look At Me Now’<\/em>, a slow burning number with a brooding baseline that delivers a message to those who may have doubted the band and sees them coming out as triumphant. It ends the album on an almighty high.<\/p>\n

For a debut record, I Divide<\/strong> have exceeded expectations as ‘Last One Standing’<\/em> is a thrilling alt-rock record from a young UK band, who have sensibly took their time by delivering a consistent set of songs.<\/p>\n

Although it is a stellar release, it\u2019s downfall is that the band’s sound and presentation isn\u2019t anything exceptional. Unfortunately for I Divide<\/strong>, there are a number of young alt-rock bands looking to rise above and be heard by a mass audience. However, the band’s confidence and drive has the potential to do this. Only time will tell.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless I Divide<\/strong> and ‘Last One Standing’<\/em> is well worth a listen as it has all you could ask for a alt-rock album.<\/p>\n
