{"id":24270,"date":"2014-03-03T11:20:14","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T11:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-egos-at-the-door-egos-at-the-door\/"},"modified":"2018-03-17T15:33:36","modified_gmt":"2018-03-17T15:33:36","slug":"album-review-egos-at-the-door-egos-at-the-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-egos-at-the-door-egos-at-the-door\/","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: Egos at the Door &#8211; Egos at the Door"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/tumblr_inline_n1trpaiXiU1qheirv.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">While I didn\u2019t expect to like an EP described as \u201cexperimental heavy music\u201d, <strong>Egos At The Door<\/strong>\u2019s new self-titled EP has proven that even something which sounds off-putting can be accessible, interesting and engaging in a way I didn\u2019t expect to be possible.<\/p>\n<p>Opening with \u2018<em>For lack of better words&hellip; Schnapps\u2019,<\/em> this EP kicks things off with a bang, with a two-minute track littered with complicated, technical guitar work and heavy vocals which ensure you stand up and take attention. This is followed by the mega-heavy beginnings of <em>\u2018Salad\u2019<\/em>, which mellows out into a more Architect\u2019s type song, with a breakdown and sung-spoken part that demonstrates a real vocal talent.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The first of two instrumentals afterwards belies you into a calm, false sense of security, before jumping back in at full throttle with the great guitar riffs of <em>\u2018I need an excuse to think\u2019<\/em>. The whole EP proceeds in this fashion, flicking back and forth between heavy metal and experimental intros, between amazing drum work and so gentle it\u2019s barely heard sections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egos At The Door<\/strong> have essentially created something which sounds like three completely different bands all spliced together, and yet their genre-mutating release works.
