However I\u2019m glad it did, as\u00a0 it\u2019s a great five-track piece of melodic pop-punk and one of the most refreshing things I\u2019ve heard so far this year.\u00a0 <strong>Head North<\/strong> are incredibly similar in sound to bands like Jack\u2019s Mannequin or The American Scene, focusing on lyrics over the more bouncy side of pop-punk that tends to be the norm.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Scrapbook Minds\u2019<\/em> features some wonderful song writing; opener <em>\u2018Doubts and Deadlines\u2019<\/em>\u00a0 contains some brilliantly emotive lyrics and great gang vocals, which offer something a little different to the track. Pared-back offering <em>\u2018Brooklyn\u2019s Burning\u2019 <\/em>shows that vocalist Brent Martone has not only a great voice, but also an unusual delivery that causes you to wholly focus on the lyrics. My personal favourite is single <em>\u2018Tremors\u2019,<\/em> which is incredibly catchy and a more typical pop-punk offering in style, made interesting by lengthy, emotive lyrics which read more like a diary entry than a song.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/headnorthny.bandcamp.com\/album\/scrapbook-minds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scrapbook Minds by Head North<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a few recording hitches which stop this album from being perfect; the volume varies wildly from track to track which can be frustrating.\u00a0<em>\u2018Brooklyn\u2019s Burning\u2019<\/em> is practically inaudible, while <em>\u2018Tremors\u2019<\/em> is deafeningly loud. This annoyance ruined the overall listening experience for me, due to having to constantly edit the sound levels which is a real shame.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of this, <em>\u2018Scrapbook Minds\u2019<\/em> is a promising EP, showcasing some real song writing talent, catchy riffs and unique vocal delivery which really separate <strong>Head North<\/strong> from the pack.
