{"id":26,"date":"2018-02-23T13:00:22","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T13:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/live-review-marmozets-and-queen-zee-rescue\/"},"modified":"2023-01-24T15:08:18","modified_gmt":"2023-01-24T15:08:18","slug":"live-review-marmozets-nottingham-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/live-review-marmozets-nottingham-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Review: Marmozets and Queen Zee &#8211; Rescue Rooms, Nottingham &#8211; 08\/02\/2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It might be a wet cold night in Nottingham, but following the release of their somewhat polarising second album, <i>\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-marmozets-knowing-what-you-know-now\/\">Knowing What You Know Now<\/a>\u2019<\/i>, <a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/tag\/marmozets\/\"><b>Marmozets<\/b><\/a> are back in town to showcase the album in a live setting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/tumblr_p40otrgc7x1r8no6so6_1280.jpg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>With 90 minutes between doors opening and the lone support act <b>Queen Zee<\/b> beginning, there is a sense of relief by the time the colourful Liverpudlian collective arrive on stage. With their brand of riotous, intense DIY indie punk sound. <i>\u2018Victim Age\u2019<\/i> is a snappy opener with a riveting bass line. The energetic grunge-tinged onslaught of <i>\u2018Sissy Fists\u2019<\/i> follows before <i>\u2018Boy\u2019<\/i> arrives to celebrate all things transgender with Zee challenging the expectations of being born as a boy.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Femme Forever\u2019<\/i> compliments this sentiment as Zee questions <i>\u201cwill you bury me in a black dress?\u201d<\/i> The track is carried by an 80s-esque melody with an unhinged undertone. It\u2019s one of their more refined offerings. While <i>&#8216;Sass or Die\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Porno\u2019<\/i> put <b>Queen Zee<\/b> in a positive light, it\u2019s clear the lack of response from the crowd is bubbling underneath. Nevertheless, as Zee speaks about transphobia and homophobia ahead of closing out with the punk fuelled <i>&#8216;Pink Flag\u2019<\/i>, the Scouse band get an appreciative response. As they continue to move away from their DIY origins, <b>Queen Zee<\/b> don\u2019t look overwhelmed to playing to sold-out crowds. They\u2019re certainly not ones to ignore. (3.5\/5)<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/tumblr_p40e576xzS1r8no6so7_1280.jpg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>Last time we saw <b>Marmozets<\/b> in this room several years back, we witnessed a band who have found their sound and were thriving with confidence. In the time they\u2019ve been away, there clearly has been a hunger for the Yorkshire group to return as they play to a sold-out room. Jumping straight into <i>\u2018New Religion\u2019<\/i>, it\u2019s not until \u2018Habits\u2019 where things really kick into gear, providing the first sing-along of the night. Likewise <i>\u2018Start Again\u2019<\/i> thrives, putting <i>&#8216;Knowing What You Know Now\u2019<\/i> in a strong light.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, as they launch into old favourite <i>\u2018Move, Shake, Hide\u2019<\/i>, the crowd roars with approval. Alongside <i>&#8216;Weird and Wonderful\u2019<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Particle\u2019<\/i>, the quintet are in full flow as they seamlessly blend their energetic set with old and new material. Becca Macintyre has a commanding presence as the crowd feeds off her energy and versatile vocal work. While drummer Josh Macintyre springs from his seat to put emphasis on every hit.<\/p>\n<p>Although they deliver an abundance of frantic bangers, the slow-burning and compelling <i>\u2018Insomnia\u2019<\/i> gets the response it deserves, before <i>\u2018Play\u2019<\/i> thrive in a live setting with a psychedelic pinch.<\/p>\n<p>By the time they hit a four-track home run of <i>&#8216;Run With The Rhythm\u2019<\/i>, <i>&#8216;Why Do You Hate Me?\u2019<\/i>, <i>&#8216;Major System Error\u2019<\/i> and <i>&#8216;Captivate You\u2019<\/i>, with Becca standing on the barrier leading one final sing-along, it\u2019s clear why <b>Marmozets<\/b> are currently one of the UK\u2019s most beloved rock bands.
