Their sharp ascension began with 2013s debut full-length <i>\u2018Signals\u2019<\/i> and accelerated with its follow-up, <i>&#8216;Asymmetry\u2019<\/i>. With it came a Top 20 chart position, a stint on the Vans Warped Tour and a well-received UK headline tour. While the argument of \u201cis rock represented enough in the mainstream?\u201d can be left for another time, <b>Mallory Knox<\/b> are certainly leaders of the so-called \u201cBrit Rock\u201d moment; breaking through the glass ceiling of the underground.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, their rise hasn\u2019t come without criticism, but it\u2019s clear <i>&#8216;Asymmetry\u2019<\/i> showed they found a winning formula. Now after some time away re-evaluating themselves, <i>&#8216;Wired\u2019<\/i> has arrived. At first, there\u2019s a strong sense of familiarity as <i>&#8216;Giving It Up\u2019<\/i> carries itself with a big slick and infectious chorus. Whereas <i>&#8216;California\u2019<\/i> is an arena-made number that emphasises Mikey Chapman\u2019s vocal chops. <i>&#8216;Midnight\u2019<\/i> provides a lightweight tribute to late night drives, while <i>&#8216;Falling In Love\u2019<\/i> is an ineffective slice of adrenaline-filled rock.<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>As you delve deeper into <i>&#8216;Wired\u2019<\/i>, there are signs of a new, lyrically unhinged <b>Mallory Knox<\/b>. The titular track tackles mental health, before album highlight, <i>&#8216;Better Off Without You (Citalopram)\u2019<\/i>, speaks on the reliance of the antidepressant drug of the same name. <i>&#8216;Saviour\u2019<\/i> bluntly sees Chapman state there\u2019s <i>\u201cno God coming to save us all\u201d<\/i> as he encourages listeners to take account of their issues.<\/p>\n<p>So will <i>&#8216;Wired\u2019<\/i> change the mind of the naysayers? It\u2019s unlikely. For all of its lyrical intrigue, stylistically there is little evolution on show with the familiar bold, polished take on modern rock firmly intact.
