{"id":2866,"date":"2017-03-01T12:48:23","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T12:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-heart-attack-man-the-manson-family\/"},"modified":"2018-03-21T22:15:59","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T22:15:59","slug":"review-heart-attack-man-the-manson-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-heart-attack-man-the-manson-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Review:\u00a0Heart Attack Man &#8211;\u00a0The Manson Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/196fa14ef138b19c6edd58f1b57b338d\/tumblr_oczgq9lfGb1r8no6so1_r18_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>In music, it&rsquo;s hard to really convey sincerity, yet it\u2019s pretty easy to believe and invest in every word uttered by Cleveland, Ohio, duo <b>Heart Attack Man<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Dripping in bleak gallows humour and wry twisted insights into the American Dream, there\u2019s also a wounded, self-critical heart at the centre of <i>\u2018The Manson Family\u2019<\/i> that makes for a compelling listen lyrically, but which combines heavy content with strong indie-punk hooks to make an astonishingly brave and powerful record. <\/p>\n<p>Produced by Modern Baseball\u2019s Ian Farmer, <b>Heart Attack Man<\/b> (Eric Egan and Adam Paduch) fall squarely into the same bracket as MoBo and their buddies in Sorority Noise \u2013 and if you\u2019re a fan of either then <i>\u2018The Manson Family\u2019<\/i> could be one of your favourite albums of the year \u2013 yet it\u2019s to the duo\u2019s credit that <i>\u2018The Manson Family\u2019<\/i> never feels like a watered down or derivative version of this well-established sound. <\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>Instead, playful moments, such as the twinkling keys on <i>\u2018Funhouse Mirrors\u2019<\/i> or the slow-quick dynamic of <i>\u2018Carbon Copies\u2019<\/i> help to build a solid identity that is all <b>Heart Attack Man<\/b>, while the propulsive semi-spoken <i>\u2018Surrounded by Morons\u2019<\/i> is a brave change of pace that works surprisingly well. <\/p>\n<p>Of course, it helps that <i>\u2018The Manson Family\u2019<\/i> is frequently excellent, packed with bristling and spiky indie-pop gems that come armed with weapons-grade hooks.
