{"id":29101,"date":"2013-05-11T13:00:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-11T13:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-if-looks-could-kill-breathe\/"},"modified":"2018-03-25T18:59:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-25T18:59:43","slug":"album-review-if-looks-could-kill-breathe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-if-looks-could-kill-breathe\/","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: If Looks Could Kill &#8211; Breathe, Sleeper, Breath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/tumblr_inline_mmltyjYojH1qztcot.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Hailing from Leicester, metalcore outfit <strong>If Looks Could Kill<\/strong> are set to release their mini album<em> \u2018Breathe, Sleeper, Breath.\u2019<\/em> With metalcore at the forefront of the alternative music scene, the six-piece have a lot of pressure mounted on them to make their mark; will they stand out from the crowd?<\/p>\n<p>Introducing the mini album with a short opening of piano and hushed background vocals, <strong>If Looks Could Kill<\/strong> are just laying the foundations for the rest of the record. <em>\u2018Through Thick &amp; Thin\u2019<\/em> could have transitioned more smoothly from the introduction, by fading into another gentle opening which would then build into heavier metalcore elements; instead the sextet jumps straight in with screamed vocals and rapid percussion which doesn\u2019t seem like a natural progression from the previous track. Nonetheless<em> \u2018Through Thick &amp; Thin\u2019<\/em> has an element of power behind it, with infectious choruses plus an admirable breakdown.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018I Bet You Wish I Never Took You To Dinner\u2019<\/em> features the melodies that <strong>If Looks Could Kill<\/strong> seem to execute with ease, also working a good mixture of sung and screamed vocals. Adding a hint of violence during the breakdown with the lyrics<em> \u201cI can promise that I will come for you bitch, I will come for you bitch,\u201d<\/em> the chugged guitars combine to boast a section begging for interaction with the listener.<\/p>\n<p>The structure of the tracks throughout <em>\u2018Breathe, Sleeper, Breath\u2019<\/em> are pretty predictable, with the generic metalcore elements reiterated in each track; heavier, screamed verses opposed with softer, sung choruses. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that because let\u2019s face it, that\u2019s generally what metalcore stands for; however a little more differentiation here and there wouldn\u2019t have gone a miss.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Breathe, Sleeper, Breath\u2019<\/em> is a commendable release and <strong>If Looks Could Kill<\/strong> are certainly worthy of cementing a place in the metalcore scene with this record.
