\"image\"I\u2019ll be honest with you here \u2013 I was four tracks into \u2018Maybe You, No One Else Worth It\u2019<\/em> and I was ready to cast off Brave Bird<\/strong> and start writing my review early. Awkward vocals met decidedly offbeat and twee emo-pop and I wasn\u2019t enjoying any of it. Yet by the time the album draws to a close I started almost cheering the band on with each track and by the end I thought I\u2019d found my new favourite band. This is a debut album where persistence really pays off.<\/p>\n

\u2018Too Late Now\u2019<\/em> feels disjointed and a confusing mix of yelping vocals and erratic guitar riffs, whereas \u2018Scared Enough\u2019<\/em> has a smart chorus that shows promise but again it feels lost what feels like a sea of different ideas and approaches. That\u2019s certainly the case for \u2018Tired Enough\u2019<\/em> too. It almost feels like Brave Bird<\/strong> are over complicating a genre that often strives on its simplicity and on the first few listens it doesn\u2019t work for me.<\/p>\n

So how does this album pick up? \u2018Thick Skin\u2019<\/em> slows the pace considerably and from there we start to hear Brave Bird<\/strong> settle down and grow into themselves. Amidst the chaos comes a track that focuses you on how effective the band can be when they build gradually and then unleash a ridiculously huge bridge. It\u2019s arguably the strongest track on \u2018Maybe You, No One Else Worth It<\/em>\u2019 and from this point onwards I start to see a different side to the album.<\/p>\n

&amp;amp;lt;a href=“http:\/\/bravebird.bandcamp.com\/album\/maybe-you-no-one-else-worth-it-2” data-mce-href=“http:\/\/bravebird.bandcamp.com\/album\/maybe-you-no-one-else-worth-it-2”&amp;amp;gt;Maybe You, No One Else Worth It by Brave Bird&amp;amp;lt;\/a&amp;amp;gt;<\/p>\n

\u2018Whittle Down The Days\u2019<\/em> and \u2018The Worst Things Happen\u2019<\/em> now sound invigorating rather than strained and the latter peaks with a rather excellent and thought provoking final two minutes. The dual vocals work well to create a fairly life affirming few moments. Initially it felt worth celebrating and now on my tenth listen I\u2019m still skipping back to re-live it again. The album doesn\u2019t stop there either as \u2018Get Over What\u2019s Right\u2019<\/em> is another fine example of how Brave Bird<\/strong> can craft a fantastically driven emo-rock track with a more dedicated structure.<\/p>\n

\u2018Maybe You, No One Else Worth It\u2019<\/em> is a journey that looks rocky at first and I don\u2019t blame those who consider packing their bags and heading home. Stick with it though and you\u2019ll be treated to some of the finest emo-rock I\u2019ve heard in a long time.<\/p>\n
