In a little ‘ole place called Richmond, Virginia, this weekend sees the return of the 3rd annual Stay Sweet Festival<\/strong>. Time and time again, Stay Sweet<\/strong> manages to bring together all of the USA’s up and comers into one small space to play for the delight of fans from all round. Taking place over 3 days this weekend sees bands likes; Slingshot Dakota<\/strong>, Luther<\/strong>, Code Orange Kids<\/strong>, The Menzingers<\/strong>, Captain, We’re Sinking<\/strong>, Dowsing<\/strong>, You Blew It!<\/strong> And many many of the big hitters of the Run For Cover age. Below are some of the bands playing over the 3 days that have had my attention for a while now.<\/p>\n

Turnover<\/strong>
For Fans Of: Title Fight, Daylight, Seahaven.
Turnover<\/strong> seem to be a band that I got pretty hyped about, then disappeared. Then only recently have I begun to once again see their name appearing and I read that they’re literally about to release a full length. Now, I can’t guarantee what the full length will be like, but if their previous works are anything to go by then it’ll be the record I’ve been waiting for from this band. ‘Magnolia’<\/em> is released via Run For Cover Records<\/strong> next Monday (16th April) and I’d advise keeping an ear out for it.<\/p>\n

They play on Friday at 6.30 on the Stage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Glocca Morra<\/strong>
For Fans Of: Algernon Cadwallader, Cap’n Jazz, Cursive.
I first heard of Glocca Morra<\/strong> when we were told by some guy me and my housemate met at Fest 10 to come watch his band. We did, and it turned out to be Glocca Morra<\/strong>. I have to admit, at the time I wasn’t overly impressed, but a year or so on with their newest release ‘An Obscure Moon Lighting An Obscure World’<\/em> they’ve really grown on me. ‘Just Married’<\/em> really was a top album amongst all the others of its ilk when it came out, but it’s this latest release that I’m way in to. Musically, it reminds me a hell of a lot of Cursive, whilst vocally there’s a lot of Algernon influence. Swaying in and out of time, clean vocals and shot vocals. This new record makes me think Glocca Morra<\/strong> might’ve achieved what many other bands in this genre don’t, finding the niche they’re good at and then excelling at it.<\/p>\n

Timeshares<\/strong>
For Fans Of: Iron Chic, Captain We’re Sinking, Latterman.
Timeshares<\/strong> have a new record out, and that record is bloody fantastic. If you love your bands Latterman style then there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be into ‘Bearable’<\/em> (which is a ridiculous name because this album is beyond bearable, enjoyable maybe would’ve been more appropriate). Having previous to this had splits out with some of our absolute favourites in Captain, We’re Sinking and our home grown love children, Dividers, it’s easy to see why everyone wants a piece of the Timeshares<\/strong> train. Coming to our shores in September, be sure to catch a date. ‘Bearable’<\/em> is available from the bands bandcamp for a measly $1 charge, or if you’re really not feeling forking out the cash, If You Make It have a free download.<\/p>\n
