At 11 songs long, there\u2019s sufficient material to get stuck into both acts, leaving in you in no doubt about the quality of direction of each band. <\/p>\n<p><b>Clarke<\/b> kicks things off with the woozy and driving <i>\u2018Get It Together\u2019<\/i>. A potent call arms, it\u2019s armed with some insidious hooks and a killer chorus that will win over even the most reticent of Superheaven fans desperate for another <i>\u2018Jar\u2019<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dispositioncollective.bandcamp.com\/album\/jake-clarke-spur-split-lp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jake Clarke \/ Spur Split LP by Spur<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Contributing six songs, <b>Clarke<\/b>\u2019s half of the split is frequently top-notch, awash with textures and half-buried melodies. It sounds great too; a sombre guitar line on <i>\u2018Yellow Gown\u2019<\/i> is haunting and powerful, while <i>\u2018Falling\u2019<\/i> nails the quiet\/loud\/quiet dynamic with style. You can blame <b>Superheaven<\/b> for helping to propagate the emo\/grunge\/shoegaze sound that has become somewhat pass\u00e9, but <b>Clarke<\/b> remains one of the masters of it, and even here the style sounds fresh and exciting. <\/p>\n<p><b>Spur<\/b> are entirely different proposition, switching between traditional indie-punk and dreamy noise pop, they charge through their five songs like feral dogs, ripping into the outstanding one-two of <i>\u2018Out of View\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Fire\u2019<\/i> and never relenting. There\u2019s a strong message behind the songs too. <i>\u201cI exist, but it\u2019s not for you,&ldquo;<\/i> blasts vocalist <b>Toni Pennello<\/b> on <i>\u2018Freeze\u2019<\/i>, marrying pointed social comment with rousing punk rock to make a striking and powerful impression. <\/p>\n<p><b>Spur<\/b> close things out with <i>\u2018Moon\u2019<\/i>, a moody piano-driven ballad with <b>Pennello<\/b>\u2019s astonishing vocals pushed right to the fore. It\u2019s a great change of pace and striking conclusion to a smart and engaging split.
