EP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/f3027a11d98f5f741c96c486a26e8e79\/tumblr_okm4rpv2tE1r8no6so4_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<p>While no explanation for the initialisation of <i>\u2018B.R.A.V.E.\u2019<\/i>\u2019s title is clear, the ultimate goal of <b>Retro Youth<\/b> is less of a mystery. Fitting into a grouping of bands that can&rsquo;t be classified as anything more specific than &ldquo;rock&rdquo;. Their radio-ready, pop-tinged tendencies suggest dreams of The 1975 levels of mainstream stardom.<\/p>\n<p>Having formed as recently as March 2015, <b>Retro Youth<\/b>\u2019s sound most obviously draws comparisons to an early Don Broco \u2013 crisp, funk-tinged guitars offset by a meaty rhythm section and sizable choruses. Kris J Davies\u2019s drawl is straight out of the Mike Duce school of melting teenage hearts, and it impresses on the swaggering, sexy <i>\u2018Love The Monster\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>Lyrical bores on <i>\u2018F.I.N.E.\u2019<\/i> (<i>&ldquo;I\u2019m falling in love with you, somebody tell me what to do&rdquo;<\/i>) are quickly forgotten thanks to the quality of the song\u2019s brief but wonderful bridge, while subtle layering of guitars and keyboards on <i>\u2018The Lost And Found\u2019<\/i> makes for an emphatic high point.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most <i>&ldquo;B.R.A.V.E.&rdquo;<\/i> move on the album is placing three of the best tracks at its end. <i>\u2018Smile<\/i>\u2019 and <i>\u2018Bruises\u2019<\/i> are surely dead certs for single release with choruses fit for festival fields. While <i>\u2018A Long Time Coming\u2019<\/i> is a rapid-fire closer built on licks reminiscent of when Alex Turner used to be fun.<\/p>\n<p>It almost seems too easy for <b>Retro Youth<\/b>. Although drawing from a wide range of influences, it is clear exactly the kind of band they want to be. Yet at times, it seems as if they are already doing it better than those at the top. <i>\u2018Let It Burn\u2019<\/i> could be Royal Blood \u2013 with better guitar solos. The title track could be The 1975\u2019s <i>\u2018Chocolate\u2019<\/i> \u2013 but less pretentious.
