When we were first introduced to Milestones<\/b> back in 2015, they were touted as one of UK pop-punks many bright hopes. Fast forward three years and they\u2019re now releasing their long-awaited debut full-length. While the initial release of \u2018Equal Measure\u2019<\/i> hinted at their pop-rock sensibilities, its 2016 Fearless Records re-release firmly placed them on the right track.<\/p>\n

For a band that had plenty of potential early on, we should be disappointed by the polished pop-rock stylings that dominate \u2018Red Lights\u2019<\/i>. Yet with every passing listen, you realise that Milestones<\/b> have produced a set of annoyingly catchy songs.<\/p>\n

Throughout its unashamedly bold and bright with hooks aplenty. \u2018Once Upon A Time\u2019<\/i> contains \u201cwoah\u201d<\/i>\u2019s. ‘Against The World\u2019<\/i> is the empowering call to arms anthem with female \u201cna na na\u201d<\/i> backing vocals. Whereas \u2018Forever and Never\u2019<\/i> lyrically tips it hats to expected clich\u00e9s before one final round of \u201cna na na\u201d<\/i>\u2019s.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

‘Paranoid\u2019<\/i> kickstarts thing with its thriving instrumentation and a dizzying guitar melody tucked away. While Matthew Clarke\u2019s vocals are delivered with conviction, proving to be the driving catalyst. It\u2019s a trait that continuously pops up through ‘Red Lights\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Undoubtedly, comparisons to the You Me At Six\u2019s and All Time Low\u2019s of this world will be made. Milestones<\/b> have their pitfalls and show a tendency to play it safe. On songs such as ‘Eighteen\u2019<\/i> and ‘Liar\u2019<\/i>, they\u2019ve followed the pop-rock rulebook with great precision. Even more so when ‘Hold On\u2019<\/i> and ‘Counting Cars\u2019<\/i> tick the box marked \u201csucculent ballad\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018Red Lights\u2019<\/i> certainly isn\u2019t going to be a world-conquering record, yet it shows a band finding their feet. The time spent touring on both sides of the Atlantic has paid off as Milestones<\/b> have enough hooks and a vocalist to carry them forward.<\/p>\n
