It\u2019s easy to anticipate a new band whose line-up consists of members of bands that all ruled. So naturally, Group of Man<\/b> comprising of former members of Hang the Bastard and Pariso made them an exciting prospect before hearing a single note of music.<\/p>\n

Like their previous outfits, second EP \u2018World Peace Champions\u2019<\/i> is fuelled by riffs being scraped along your eardrums and lyrics addressing vocalist Mark Scurr\u2019s youthful skepticism. \u2018Do you ever wonder how I feel? Well, I don\u2019t give a fuck,\u2019<\/i> he yelps on \u2018That Animal Mask\u2019<\/i>, adding that the person the song revolves around is “right about my thoughts, they\u2019re slightly morbid,”<\/i> adding to the EP\u2019s tone of playful nihilism.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Unlike past projects, the rhythm sections are more streamlined and deal with hooks and melodic structures instead of beatdowns. It\u2019s best summed up in moments like the buildup of \u2018Aftercare\u2019<\/i> where dispirited lyrics like “There\u2019s no difference between love and sex, they both thrive on pain”<\/i> can be screamed back like it\u2019s an anthem.<\/p>\n

This pairing of bleakness and big songs makes \u2018World Peace Champions\u2019<\/i> a compelling listen and sets a lot of scope for Group of Man<\/b>\u2019s future following more experience as a group under their belts. The members of this band have had enough experience making downbeat music, but when they can make you chant a lyric like “No peace for everyone, don\u2019t you know this is just the start”<\/i> with a massive smile on your face, that\u2019s when it gets interesting.<\/p>\n
