\"\"For Basement<\/strong> last year’s ‘I Wish I Could Stay Here’<\/em> was a teenage angst-filled record that opened many doors for the band and was welcomed with open arms by old and new fans. Now with the release of their second full length ‘Colourmeinkindness,’<\/em> the emo quintet are calling it quits but with this record it’s clear they won’t be forgotten anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Throughout ‘Colourmeinkindness’<\/em> Basement prove to be\u00a0poignant,\u00a0embracive and rich both musically and lyrically. From the opening moments of ‘Whole,’ the bands thriving\u00a0energy\u00a0is show in full-force as vocalist Andrew Fisher\u00a0passionately\u00a0declares “Lie to me, make me see.”<\/em> Like its predecessor Basement<\/strong> show their ability to leave you hooked on to every last word; ‘Covet’<\/em> is a\u00a0cathartic number that wallows on the line “I don\u2019t wanna be with you\/with you."\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Musically the bands sound has developing becoming mature and well-structured yet with tracks like ‘Spoiled’<\/em> and ‘Black’<\/em> the bands angst still exists and has been combined with more grungier approach. Whereas ‘Pine’<\/em> shows Basement’s lighter, more\u00a0structured\u00a0side with rich jangling guitars complimenting Fisher’s honest and sincere lyrics creating one of many standout tracks.<\/p>\n

‘Breathe’<\/em> offers a compelling moment as it slowly and subtly stirs up and resonates a warm glow that allows the band to grow. In addition ‘Comfort’<\/em>\u00a0briefly\u00a0and calmly dwells on light guitars with Fisher’s open words leaving you slightly stunned.<\/p>\n

Admittedly on first listen, Basement<\/strong>’s obvious influences of\u00a0mid-90\u2019s emo and early grunge is a mainstay and makes the album as a whole feel rather nostalgic, yet the more you listen to ‘Colourmeinkindness’<\/em> you become enthralled by the bands mix of heavy riffs and light sentimental lyrics, leading it to be replayed over and over again without fault.<\/p>\n

Although it’s not\u00a0entirely\u00a0the perfect departing present, it’s pretty damn close as Basement<\/strong> have produced a\u00a0poignant record that will be\u00a0thoroughly\u00a0embraced by fans and will add emphasis to their "legacy” once they’ve gone, however big or small it maybe.<\/p>\n
