The newly refurbished student\u2019s union at Manchester University takes a while to get used to especially when finding the new routes to certain venues. After a short period of faffing around, I eventually find Club Academy, where tonight I and a growing audience will watch the compacted performance of one of the most critically acclaimed cult bands of the last decade.<\/p>\n
Led by a piano led intro are the one and only support band of the night, Leicester instrumentalists Maybeshewill<\/strong> who behold a voiceless soundtrack for their curious reception. The band omits a huge blaring from the speakers that is full of ambient grandeur and melodically entwined heavy guitars produced on an ever building platform tinted with electronic sampling. What\u2019s truly brilliant about their sound is the story and themes of each song can be open to one\u2019s own interpretation and imagination. Three albums into their career, it\u2019ll be interesting to see what lies ahead for this band, judging from this performance it\u2019ll hopefully be a great one. (4\/5)<\/p>\n The tension that this large impatient crowd have to suffer is definitely an unbearable exciting experience, and all that promise holds true and comes to life once Texan indie progressive noise four piece \u2026And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead<\/strong> come onto the stage. Their broad sound encapsulates a magically entertaining set pickpocketing their vast back catalogue plus a couple of new songs from their upcoming eighth studio album \u2018Lost Songs\u2019<\/em>. The melodies mould well with the abrasive sounds producing a brilliant spiralling vortex.<\/p>\n One of the most impressive things is the hard hitting drums which sound like an enjoyable systematic knocking on a well-furnished door. The rest of the night sees a brief moment of punk rock intimacy between the crowd and guitarist\/drummer Jason Reece, who is excitable on lead vocals, and a delightful encore which seals the deal of an all-round live music event well spent.
