The Texan quartet who released their last full length <em>\u2018Just Give It Up\u2019<\/em> through label <strong>Vagabond Collective<\/strong> have gone back to their DIY routes and with this newest release.<\/p>\n<p>Both title track and opener <em>\u2018Achiever\u2019<\/em> kick starts the record with energetic riffs, rapid drum beats; all of the staple ingredients you\u2019d expect in a pop punk track. Despite this, Thieves can\u2019t be labelled as being a generic pop punk band: they break the rules and take on a more technical approach with the EP. \u2018<em>The Wisdom of Insecurity\u2019<\/em> which is also the third to be released from \u2018<em>Achiever\u2019<\/em> is a strong track on the record, combining infectious strings, raw vocals and lively drum beats to match.<!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>&lt;a href=&ldquo;http:\/\/thievestx.bandcamp.com\/album\/achiever-2&rdquo; data-mce-href=&ldquo;http:\/\/thievestx.bandcamp.com\/album\/achiever-2&rdquo;&gt;Achiever by Thieves&lt;\/a&gt;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Compassion vs. Contempt\u2019<\/em> breaks up the EP nicely being just over a minute in length and is yet another track full to the brim with energy, heading straight into <em>\u2018Entitled to Nothing\u2019<\/em>. Having all of the members contribute to vocals in some shape or form works well for the quartet, and the crossover vocals in this track work to Thieves strength. The quartet also experiment with slower tempos, an area that particularly highlights their technicality and adds to their fresh take on the genre. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instrumental track <em>\u2018Believer\u2019<\/em> ends <em>\u2018Achiever\u2019<\/em> on a high note, where Thieves demonstrate their technical abilities one last time displaying their refreshing outlook on pop punk.
