Welcome to week 6 of Something For The Weekend<\/strong>. This week we explore two sides of the emo spectrum with the twinkly goodness of Nai Harvest<\/strong> and the crushing aggression of I Don’t Want To Know Why The Caged Bird Sings<\/strong>. We also have super catchy pop punk from London’s Rivalries<\/strong> to help lighten the mood.<\/p>\n

Nai Harvest<\/strong>

Nai Harvest differ from many of the current UK emo bands in the sense that this is a two piece. The White Stripes of emo? Not really. Nai Harvest play twinky, shouty emo with strangely catchy hooks. Having already shared splits with Manbearpig, Papayar<\/a>, Five Leaf Nettles<\/a> and Reno Dakota amongst others it seems like the only way is up for this Sheffield band. Rivalries are a fun pop punk band from the smokey city, London. In the short time they’ve been functioning as a band they’ve established an impressive fan base, landing them shows with The Menzingers and Pacer. Their first EP ‘Built To Last’<\/a><\/em> was recently re-released by Same Both Sides Records<\/a><\/strong>. Rivalries certainly have a bright future.<\/p>\n

Is Emo-laced Aural violence a genuine subgenre? I don’t know, but listening to I Don’t Want To Know… makes you think that it should be. Mixing pure emotion with unbridled aggression, I Don’t Want To Know… should be able to hold their own at any Hardcore \/ Metal \/ Emo show. It isn’t often you find a band with that amount of crossover appeal. Also, any band deserves extra credit for titling a song ‘Batman Related Autoerotic Asphyxiation’.<\/em><\/p>\n
