Welcome to week 5 of Something For The Weekend<\/strong>. In celebration of Hevy Festival I felt it’d be fitting to feature bands that are heading to kent and per… nah, that’s been done already. Here’s three more bands that aren’t playing this year but are still worth your time. We have fresh talent from Albert Shakesphere<\/strong>, gruff pop punk from Shortcuts<\/strong> and the under appreciated Sunday League<\/strong>. Enjoy!<\/p>\n

Albert Shakesphere<\/strong>
FFO: My Castle, Your Castle!, Good Luck, and Morrissey’s vocals.
Albert Shakesphere are a jaunty phoenix, rising from the ashes of My Castle, Your Castle!, Panda Trap and Versaille. Whilst their music sits comfortably in the twiddly emo camp, the vocals sound like a combination of Morrissey and Rammenstein’s ’Till Lindemann.’<\/em> They may only have four tracks available currently (new material soon to be released by Party Wound Productions) but they definitely show promise.<\/p>\n

Shortcuts<\/strong>
FFO: Daggermouth, Off With Their Heads and aggressive Pop Punk.
Pop Punk seems to be split into two crowds – those who like it to sound polished and streamlined, and those who prefer it to sound closer to its punky roots. Shortcuts definitely fall into the latter camp. Although they occasionally wear their influences a little too openly on their sleeves they’ve got a good sound and if you like your pop punk to feature coarse vocals and 90’s hardcore style bass lines then you should enjoy Shortcuts.<\/p>\n

Sunday League<\/strong>
FFO: Jawbreaker, Dads, and Bird Calls.
There are plenty of emo bands in the UK at the moment, but there’s very few with clay stop motion music videos. That is just an observation though, and not the basis of my Sunday League recommendation. The League, hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne, have been together since 2010 and play a rough-yet-melodic brand of emo. Their Bandcamp<\/a> page has almost everything they’ve released available as a few download so there’s no reason to feel left out any longer.<\/p>\n
