\"\"If you want alternative rock with a hint of pop and emo then Mayday Parade<\/strong> are definitely your best bet. With over 1 million likes on Facebook it seems likely that so many people can’t be wrong, right? Right indeed my friend, right indeed.<\/p>\n

Their latest, simply self-titled album has been out since October last year, so the band have been hard at working touring it all over the place. Of course, they love the UK and are back for a 6th time when we interviewed them ahead of their rightful headline slot on the second stage at last month’s Slam Dunk Festival.<\/p>\n

Already Heard\u00a0<\/strong>had a sit down and a chat with vocalist Derek Sanders and lead guitarist Alex Garcia about their upcoming tours, the reason for their new album being self titled and a couple of U.S. acts to check out.<\/p>\n

Already Heard: Welcome back to the UK guys! You\u2019re no strangers to Slam Dunk, so what is it that you enjoy about the festival?<\/strong>
Derek: The biggest things is just seeing all the people, like all the bands we know. Just, you know, the whole experience is awesome and the shows are a lot of fun to so many people. We played last night headlining our stage and it was just an incredible show. Erm, yeah! It was just a cool experience.<\/em>
Alex: I concur!<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Upcoming tours for you guys are Warped tour in America and Beyond The Blue tour in Japan. What are you looking forward to with them and are there any bands you\u2019re looking forward to seeing?<\/strong>
Derek: Yeah, we play today, we\u2019ve got a day off tomorrow and then we fly to Japan and it\u2019s with William Beckett, There For Tomorrow, With The Punches, Every Avenue so it\u2019s with bands that we know and have toured with in the past and are friends with so it\u2019s going to be a great time. We love Japan! We\u2019ve been there twice now. And Warped tour of course is a ton of fun and it\u2019ll be our third time doing the full tour and 4th<\/sup> time being a part of it so yeah, it\u2019s great. It\u2019ll be a fun summer.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Is it better being on home turf or do you enjoy going abroad to play?<\/strong>
Alex: It\u2019s a little bit more comfortable playing at home. You know, we\u2019re used to the U.S. and we know what to expect.<\/em>
Derek: I think we like where we\u2019re at now and what we do now where it\u2019s just a good balance of spending a good time overseas and then doing stuff in the U.S. as well and getting to do it all, you know? It\u2019s awesome.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Are these tours to support your new self titled album?<\/strong>
Derek: We\u2019ve always kind of done it where we put out an album and then tour for about 2 years roughly, you know, and then\u2026 well maybe year and a half, I don\u2019t know. And then write another album, record it and hit the road again for another year, year and a half or so and yeah.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Is there any reason for the new album being self titled?<\/strong>
Derek: Yeah. Well, there\u2019s a couple of reasons but mainly because it kind of felt like a statement of \u2018this is who we are now\u2019 and we\u2019ve learned a lot over the last few years and the album before that one, our second album, \u2018Anywhere But Here\u2019; we learned a lot doing that album and kind of went through a change I guess or figured out more of who we are and what we want in this band. So yeah, we wanted to go on and make an album that we loved and naming it \u2018Mayday Parade\u2019 just kind of you know, fit that.<\/em>
Alex: Lets kids know that\u2019s how we feel.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: With the exception of \u2018Tales Told By Friends\u2019 each of your releases has a distinct artwork style; What is your favourite record cover of all time? Is the artwork something that\u2019s important to you?<\/strong>
Alex: I think Oasis\u2019 \u2018(What\u2019s The Story) Morning Glory,\u2019 That\u2019s like, one of my favourite albums. I feel like it\u2019s hard to just, pick an album soley on the artwork, you know? Although there is\u2026 King Crimson has a really famous picture of a guy screaming. I\u2019ve never really heard the album but the artwork is awesome.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Do you think it plays a big part in people\u2019s preconceptions; Do you think people will judge an album by its cover? Do you think that happens a lot?<\/strong>
Derek: I think it can go either way. Obviously there\u2019s a kind of appeal to a really awesome album artwork but there\u2019s also a lot of you know, Weezer album covers that are just simple or ridiculous things. It doesn\u2019t really matter what the cover is, you know.<\/em>
Alex: I feel like album covers kind of set the mood for you know, an album like, whenever you listen to a band\u2026 there\u2019s nothing to visualise except for whatever other images you\u2019ve seen. I think album covers really play into that.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: \u2018A Lesson In Romantics\u2019 was recently released on vinyl; are you guys big record collectors?<\/strong>
Derek: In the past few years I\u2019ve built up a collection of maybe like, 30 records, so I\u2019m not that big into it but I\u2019m trying to and you guys *points to Alex* and Brooks (rhythm guitarist) does as well. It\u2019s just you know\u2026 it\u2019s fun. I think it\u2019s cool to and I\u2019m glad we released \u2018A Lesson In Romantics\u2019 on vinyl and we released our newest album, the self titled, on vinyl as well and that\u2019s just cool for us to have.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: What\u2019s your favourite record that you\u2019ve got? If that\u2019s not too tough a question!<\/strong>
Derek: Oh erm, I don\u2019t know\u2026<\/em>
Alex: I have two, nothing like too crazy or special but I have two erm\u2026 One of my favourite guitarists is Duane Allman and there\u2019s a\u2026 they released an anthology kind of collection after he died and there\u2019s 2, I have both of those anthologies. They weren\u2019t actually hard to find at all abutfor some reason I thought they would\u2019ve been but I like those a lot. The artwork\u2019s really awesome and there\u2019s a ton of awesome pictures and it\u2019s cool; it\u2019s just a great album.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: You\u2019ve got a UK tour later in the year in October with support from The Summer Set and Natives. Why did you guys pick those bands as support?<\/strong>
Derek: Well we know The Summer Set and we did a tour with them a year ago and they\u2019re good folks so we pulled them in again and then Natives\u2026 I don\u2019t really know them but\u2026<\/em>
Alex: We just heard really good things.<\/em>
Derek: Yeah, yeah. I\u2019m sure it\u2019ll be cool to meet them and hang out with them and yeah.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Natives are quite a small band in comparison to you guys, so are there any other similar, smaller bands you know of from the U.S. that we should check out?<\/strong>
Derek: There\u2019s a band called The Weathers that I love they\u2019re from are our area and they\u2019re like friends of ours but they\u2019re a phenomenal band but I think they\u2019re going to release their first EP pretty soon so that\u2019s reallycool. There\u2019s a band called Maniac that I think is really cool that\u2026 I don\u2019t really know if they\u2019re\u2026 I just heard of them recently so I don\u2019t know if they\u2019re a new band necessarily but I\u2019ve just heard them and I think they\u2019re unsigned.<\/em><\/p>\n

AH: Anything else to add?<\/strong>
Derek: I don\u2019t know. We\u2019re just you know, thanks for the support and we\u2019re pumped to be here. Having a good time in the U.K. and it\u2019s our 6th<\/sup> time over here so it\u2019s crazy.<\/em><\/p>\n
