Filling the genre section on their Facebook page with the terms \u2018Fuck Rock\u2019, \u2018Gash Pop\u2019 and \u2018Sasscore\u2019, North Wales quartet Falls<\/b> do a better job of summing up the sound of third EP \u2018Cream\u2019<\/i> than most premeditated genre labels possibly could. No one\u2019s sticking to conventions on these four tracks, but layers of attitude are stuck all over them.<\/p>\n

Opener \u2018Berries!\u2019<\/i> wastes no time shoving this attitude in people\u2019s faces. Delivered on a set off riffs packing an almighty swagger. “Me and you, think it through, you can poke my bruise”<\/i>, frontman Martin Gallagher lulls over the melody, which isn\u2019t the best pickup line in the book, but is delivered with a devil-may-care approach that makes the offer feel irresistible.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Moments like this and the velvet smooth chorus of \u2018Daytime N U\u2019<\/i> makes \u2018Cream\u2019<\/i> an outlet for red-blooded bravado delivered with a flamboyance from Gallagher, whose versatile vocal range lets him switch from crooner to a man bursting out his veins on \u2018Live Delicious\u2019<\/i>. His performance makes him the most dynamic presence on the EP, commanding the band to change tempo and levels of distortion to match his own schizophrenic flow.<\/p>\n

On a surface level, \u2018Cream\u2019<\/i> is a jovial effort from Falls<\/b>,which lets them play around with catchy grunge riffs and hooks with a Josh Homme touch to them. Yet there\u2019s an undeniable bite across these songs, and by the time you reach the sludgy ending of \u2018Liberator\u2019<\/i>, you\u2019ll surely be converted into a Sasscore fan.<\/p>\n
