Some, like Fest staples <b>Iron Chic<\/b>, need no introduction \u2013 you\u2019d be crazy to miss them in what is surely their natural habitat \u2013 but further down the bill there\u2019s plenty of opportunity to check out some of tomorrow\u2019s stars today, get reacquainted with some old friends (<b>Latterman<\/b>, <b>The Ergs!<\/b>) and send off some soon-departing favourites (<b>Old Flings<\/b>).<\/p>\n<p>Now, we\u2019re all big fans of new music here at <b>Already Heard<\/b>, so with that in mind our Fest preview this year features a number of up-and-coming acts who deserve your time and attention should you be making your way out to Florida, plus one reunion show for those old-schoolers who miss the good ol\u2019 days\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/user\/alreadyhearduk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Follow us on Spotify for more playlists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/ffef0471b9b863cb8ac4291877ec8a78\/tumblr_ofiat1GZeD1r8no6so2_r1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Annabel<\/h2>\n<p><b>Annabel<\/b>\u2019s latest opus, <i>\u2018Having It All\u2019<\/i> was one of 2015\u2019s finest moments; a bruised yet confident and wonderfully expressive indie-rock album, punctuated by perfect moments of poise and a bombastic swell that underpinned their grand sound. It had its driving moments too; <i>\u2018The Fortunate Ones\u2019<\/i> in particular is one of the most life-affirming three minutes you will ever encounter.<\/p>\n<p>And it feels like <b>Annabel<\/b> are finally reaching an audience their rich tapestry deserves, rounding off the first day of The Fest at Rocky\u2019s Piano Bar where a heartfelt sing-along will undoubtedly send us home deliriously happy. (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Friday, October 28th 1:00am at Rocky\u2019s Piano Bar.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/1f642961582b3ca9b0848827af64995c\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so9_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Brightr<\/h2>\n<p>Barely a fortnight before making the trip out to Florida, <b>Brightr<\/b> (AKA Laurie Cottingham) was making his second trip of the year around Italy, taking his heartfelt and bruised indie\/emo to anyone and everywhere that will have him.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re huge fans of his here at Already Heard, so we\u2019re delighted to see him on The Fest bill. His appearance caps what has been an incredible year of highs, including the release of his debut album, and we cannot wait to catch one of the UK\u2019s best solo artists in a foreign land.(RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Friday, October 28th 10:10pm at Civic Media Centre.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/e723e234050d684d9aa7ba2e1ca1151c\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so8_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Choke Up<\/h2>\n<p>Massachusetts\u2019 <b>Choke Up<\/b> are a band seemingly made for The Fest; melodic but not saccharine, edgy and aggressive but not obtuse, and infectiously catchy but not obviously so. They\u2019re the sort of band that translates perfectly to a packed bar, so there\u2019s no doubt at all that Already Heard will be queuing to catch the Boston heroes.<\/p>\n<p>And while the quartet\u2019s live show is sure to be a riot, it\u2019s the quality of their songs that should steal the show. Last year\u2019s <i>\u2018Black Coffee, Bad Habits\u2019<\/i> was a triumph of Banner Pilot-style punk rock anthems, buzzsaw sharp but blessed with heart and soul. If The Fest is all about the good times and the sing-alongs then <b>Choke Up<\/b> could well deliver one of the most enjoyable sets of the weekend. (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th 3:20pm at The Wooly.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/2ebc1307bc27764ad988706c957bf06f\/tumblr_ofibfp1Xbf1r8no6so1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Dead Bars<\/h2>\n<p><b>Dead Bars<\/b> were included in our 50 bands to watch this year, and so far the Seattle punks haven\u2019t let us down, delivering two killer split singles as they build up to release their full-length debut next year.<\/p>\n<p>Promising a raucous bar room set, <b>Dead Bars<\/b> play a style of punk similar to fellow Fest performers Pkew Pkew Pkew. Irreverent and fun, they should be perfect for an early evening sing song with old friends and new, regaling us with literal stories of trips to the <i>\u2018Funhouse\u2019<\/i>, loving New York and not getting tattooed. They might even treat us to an outrageous cover of <i>\u2018Hangin\u2019 on the Telephone\u2019<\/i>\u2026 if we\u2019re lucky\u2026 (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Saturday, October 29th 8:10pm at Palomino.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/a0bc74bd9f75a6f1c778b05cb5905f82\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so4_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Digger<\/h2>\n<p>Late 90\u2019s\/early 00\u2019s pop-punk often gets labelled as shallow and superficial and as a result much has aged dreadfully. Not so in the case of Pennsylvania\u2019s <b>Digger<\/b> who, despite the occasional throw-away pop-punk hit in their early days, actually displayed a lot more substance compared to their peers.<\/p>\n<p>Now Chris Benner\u2019s pop-punk heroes are back after a near decade hiatus, and we cannot wait to get reacquainted with <b>Digger<\/b>\u2019s heartfelt, socially-conscious, sing-alongs. In an alternate universe the likes of <b>Digger<\/b>, The Fairlanes and Weston would be lauded as highly as Blink-182, and it\u2019s a crying shame more people aren\u2019t fully acquainted with <b>Digger<\/b>\u2019s spiky pop-punk anthems \u2013 but in a dive bar in the middle of Florida cuts like <i>\u2018I Want My Hat Back\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Pieces\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Try and Catch Me\u2019<\/i> promise to be celebratory. (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Saturday, October 29th 2:20pm at High Dive.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/3e150dc33f5d06de54a04a3265e7175e\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so2_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Holy Pinto<\/h2>\n<p>For Canterbury duo Aymen Saleh and Ryan Hurley aka <b>Holy Pinto<\/b>, 2016 has been a year of progression. Their debut full-length, <i>&lsquo;Congratulations&rsquo;<\/i>, was released in April, introducing more people to their colourful and quirky output of indie-pop. The blend of Saleh&rsquo;s narrative lyrics, jangly instrumentation and Hurley&rsquo;s strong drum work is delivered with warmth and conviction. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th &#8211; 1:40pm at Loosey&rsquo;s.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/f73a653b52dd1ed294c49a353cd0bd89\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so10_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">The Island of Misfit Toys<\/h2>\n<p>Despite its reputation as a punk rocker\u2019s paradise, The Fest isn\u2019t all about riffs and gang vocals, and sprinkled throughout the three days you can find gems like <b>The Island of Misfit Toys<\/b>. The Chicago-based nonet (yup\u2026) delivered one of the finest albums of 2015 with the sprawling <i>\u2018I Made You Something\u2019<\/i>, which took cues from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, The World is a Beautiful Place and the Decemberists to make one of the year\u2019s most wonderfully rewarding releases.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, getting a nine-piece DIY band over to the UK is somewhat unrealistic, so the thought of seeing them as part of The Fest makes attendance a no-brainer. After all, if you\u2019re travelling all that way, it would be foolish not to\u2026(RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Friday, October 28th 5:00pm at Rockey\u2019s Piano Bar.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/e6f5932897b1ed525b47b27cafbb6641\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so6_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Kamikaze Girls<\/h2>\n<p>Much loved Leeds-based riot grrrl duo <b>Kamikaze Girls<\/b> have been winning over critics and fans since their last visiting Gainesville last October. Even Hayley Williams is a fan. Their recently released debut EP, <i>&#8216;Sad&rsquo;<\/i>, has been welcomed by many for guitarist Lucinda Livingstone and drummer Conor Dawson&rsquo;s flare for writing angst-y, impassioned songs with pop sensibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Coupled with an awareness of social and political issues, <b>Kamikaze Girls<\/b> are slowly being awarded for their DIY work ethic and admirable and brave lyrical approach. An early evening slot alongside a range of fellow UK acts sounds like an ideal spot as Livingstone and Dawson continue to slowly take over the world. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th 5:50pm at Loosey&rsquo;s.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/3c19bd4ee922bfa84c2b1993f38057f7\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so5_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Museum Mouth<\/h2>\n<p><b>Museum Mouth<\/b> found themselves signed to Equal Vision following a rogue tweet and a 6-month conversation with Say Anything\u2019s Max Bemis. In itself it\u2019s a great story, but doesn\u2019t really sell how great <b>Museum Mouth<\/b> are in their own right \u2013 although it does epitomise the group\u2019s goofy charm.<\/p>\n<p>And that charm carries through the group\u2019s bruised lo-fi indie rock. Helmed by Karl Kuehn (also of <b>Family Bike<\/b>), <b>Museum Mouth<\/b> produce some dizzingly dense narratives, with the likes of album <i>\u2018Alex I Am Nothing\u2019<\/i> telling the story of a doomed relationship, while 2016\u2019s <i>\u2018Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig\u2019<\/i> retains the group\u2019s irreverence and heartfelt storytelling but delivers it in episodic chunks. They\u2019ve also produced some killer alt-pop songs along the way too \u2013 such as the killer <i>\u2018Crocodile\u2019<\/i> \u2013 and we can\u2019t wait to see them slay live. (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th 7:10pm at Durty Nelly\u2019s.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/1d2b6877c8d7f000ffdaf94b178ec308\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so7_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Pkew Pkew Pkew<\/h2>\n<p>If, like Already Heard, you\u2019ll be travelling in excess of 4,000 miles, you\u2019re going to want to party when you hit Florida. And who better to crack open some brewskies with than perma-skint party punks <b>Pkew Pkew Pkew<\/b>?<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian heroes\u2019 latest album was one of the freshest of the year, regaling us with tales of skateboarding injuries, being nightmare neighbours and pre-drinks drinks. They\u2019re the sort of band made for The Fest and as such are sure to be a big draw for those who just want to kick back, relax and sing-along to inane lyrics while bouncing around like maniacs. We cannot wait\u2026(RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Saturday, October 29th 9:50pm at Market Street Pub.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/fa45658473277294d6008dfe52037735\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so1_500.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Signals Midwest<\/h2>\n<p><b>Signals Midwest<\/b>\u2019s latest opus, <i>\u2018At This Age\u2019<\/i>, showcased the sound of a band ageing gracefully and stylishly. Few lyricists can strike at the heart better than Max Stern, and a softening pallet ensured the Ohio indie-punks delivered one of the most striking returns of the year.<\/p>\n<p>But while <b>Signals Midwest<\/b> continue to excel on record, live is where the fun is really at. In fact, they\u2019ll be treating The Fest-goers with two shows over the course of the weekend \u2013 one full band and a Stern acoustic set, and you\u2019d be well advised to check at least one out. Having honed their live show thanks to years spent on the road, <b>Signals Midwest<\/b> should hopefully deliver at least one of the most life-affirming sets of the weekend. (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Friday, October 28th 6:50pm at Civic Media Centre (Max Stern solo) and Saturday October 29th 8:40pm at Cowboys (full band).<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/f0c642d554d59d47ce3ab4c73baddcac\/tumblr_ofiacwMnfd1r8no6so3_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Sinai Vessel<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this month, <b>Sinai Vessel<\/b> announced the release date for their long-awaited new album, <i>\u2018Brokenlegged\u2019<\/i>. One internet wit described it as the \u2018Chinese Democracy\u2019 of emo albums, which serves to illustrate the length of time we\u2019re talking about and also the level of expectation from fans.<\/p>\n<p>But <b>Sinai Vessel<\/b> have not been hiding since the release of 2011\u2019s <i>\u2018Labour Pains\u2019<\/i>. A brilliant stop-gap EP in 2014 titled <i>\u2018Profanity\u2019<\/i> kept the pressure off, while they continue to crisscross the States as a group or as a Caleb Cordes solo show. Having now built a strong reputation for their alt-rock tinged indie-punk their show at The Fest should serve as the perfect foil to the weekend\u2019s more raucous and boisterous moments.(RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Friday, October 28th 8:00pm at Rockey\u2019s Piano Bar (full band) and Saturday October 29th 11:20pm at Whiskey House (Caleb Cortes solo).<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/fc68ff08ee7cd06c6b496d53824e0e75\/tumblr_ofiainWSkg1r8no6so3_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Sports.<\/h2>\n<p>Boston\u2019s <b>Sports.<\/b> only formed in 2013, but have already got an acclaimed debut to their name and look like one of the underground groups most likely to make the jump out to a wider scene. <\/p>\n<p>Taking cues from the likes of Snowing, Tiny Moving Parts, Modern Baseball and the Wonder Years, the real <b>Sports.<\/b> boys mix up mathy indie-pop sensibilities with pop-punk gusto to make a joyous, frenetic and infectious noise that belongs in packed in bars and played to hyperactive fans. When we said about watching tomorrow\u2019s stars today, this is exactly the type of band we were talking about. Miss at your peril\u2026 (RM)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th 2:10pm at Durty Nelly\u2019s.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/11869c0febb3ba79e784dbc414b46954\/tumblr_ofiainWSkg1r8no6so2_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">The Winter Passing<\/h2>\n<p>It&rsquo;s been an eventful 12 months for our favourite Irish indie punks <b>The Winter Passing<\/b>. Their debut full-length, <i>&#8216;A Different Space of Mind&rsquo;<\/i>, has gradually been opening up new opportunites, most notably tour spots opening for Moose Blood and Modern Baseball.<\/p>\n<p>Their return to Gainesville sees the quartet taking a break from recording it&rsquo;s follow-up. For Fest-goers, it gives them an opportunity to reconvene with <b>TWP<\/b>&rsquo;s brand of harmonious and emotional indie punk. While the sibling pair of Rob and Kate Flynn supply a radiant and admirable set of duel vocals. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> Sunday, October 30th &#8211; 5:00pm at Loosey&rsquo;s.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/b090dbca99d97b655d142939733b5633\/tumblr_ofiainWSkg1r8no6so1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Worriers<\/h2>\n<p><b>Worriers<\/b> are another band on The Fest bill that have delivered an outstanding album over the last 18 months. Politically and socially charged, the Brooklyn group\u2019s second album, <i>\u2018Imaginary Life\u2019<\/i> is a powerful document dealing with topics such as gender, identity and the actions of the police.<\/p>\n<p>Yet for all the heavy themes, there\u2019s a delicateness to <b>Worriers\u2019<\/b> sound, softening the lyrical blows and enveloping them with a breezy indie-pop sheen, which allows Lauren Denitzio\u2019s excellent lyrics to shine. As a result, in these troubled times, an afternoon with <b>Worriers<\/b> should serve as an eye-opening antidote.
