While it\u2019s not the urgent opener of past records (<i>\u2018Futures\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Bleed American\u2019<\/i>), it\u2019s clear the <b>Jimmy Eat World<\/b> of 2016 look to ease you in.<\/p>\n<p>At its core, this a standard <b>Jimmy Eat World<\/b> record. Throughout there are elements that are reminiscent of past albums; <i>\u2018Get Right\u2019<\/i> wouldn\u2019t sound out of place on <i>\u2018Futures\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2019It Matters\u2019<\/i>\u2019 guitars subtly intertwine in a <i>\u2018Clarity\u2019<\/i>-esque fashion and <i>\u2018Through\u2019<\/i> has hints of <i>\u2019Static Prevails\u2019<\/i>. Meanwhile, recent single \u2018Sure and Certain\u2019 serves its purpose, being thoroughly addictive with its warm chorus and twinkling middle eight. It\u2019s one of the early highlights and one of the band\u2019s best songs in recent years.<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>The production of Justin Mellal-Johnsen (Paramore, M83) provides an airy, polished tone, allowing the band to occasionally experiment &#8211; to varying levels of success. Most notably <i>\u2018Pass The Baby\u2019<\/i> jars the album\u2019s momentum, its sparse, electronic-led approach spoiling the comforting flow, while the title track sweeps through with just Adkins\u2019 vocals and grand orchestration. Together they show a departure from the standard emo rock we\u2019ve come to expect.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u2018You Are Free\u2019<\/i> puts things back on track with its stirring undertone; reassuring and thoughtful. Its chorus is bright and hopeful, on a par with <i>\u2018Sure and Certain\u2019<\/i> as being a standout track. However, the album\u2019s slight downfall is the occasional offering of filler; <i>\u2018The End Is Beautiful\u2019<\/i>, while soft and radiant, doesn\u2019t have a lasting impact.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately <i>\u2018Integrity Blues\u2019<\/i> is something of a hybrid. <b>Jimmy Eat World<\/b> swing from playing it safe to offering a considered challenge, pulling from the past put remaining relevant.
