{"id":39378,"date":"2018-03-22T18:12:29","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T18:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-townhouse-warrior-words-unsaid\/"},"modified":"2018-04-02T13:36:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-02T13:36:09","slug":"review-townhouse-warrior-words-unsaid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-townhouse-warrior-words-unsaid\/","title":{"rendered":"Review: Townhouse Warrior &#8211;\u00a0Words, Unsaid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/73f46ea31183544c9bc6c0a6710b5916\/tumblr_oczgq9lfGb1r8no6so6_r79_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Musically speaking, it\u2019s kind of hard to get excited about pop-punk in the current climate, especially when so much of it is either formulaic or derivative or, God forbid, both.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there\u2019s something refreshingly different about New York\u2019s <b>Townhouse Warrior<\/b>, and third album <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i>, that sets them apart from the multitude of bands occupying the crowded space.<\/p>\n<p>Much of this is down to vocalist Zack Fitzgerald\u2019s distinctive voice, which recalls nerdy pop-rockers Feable Weiner. Here, it works surprisingly well, especially since everything on <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i> is delivered with crystal clear clarity and devoid of the over-caffeinated hyperactivity of the \u2018Weiners.<br \/>\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=3910527649\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=333333\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/townhousewarrior.bandcamp.com\/album\/words-unsaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Words, Unsaid. by Townhouse Warrior<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not to say <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i> doesn\u2019t come packed with energy and verve; it\u2019s a riot of big riffs and chunky hooks that could live comfortably in the catalogue of any number of early noughties pop-punk bands, and especially the likes of Rufio or Over It. <i>\u2018So Left, It\u2019s Right\u2019<\/i>, in particular, is a perfect example; technical but not distractingly so, it\u2019s a perfect slice of nostalgia-tinged pop-punk.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, while there\u2019s a certain rose-tinted appeal about <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i> it\u2019s certainly not rooted in the past, and much of it stands up to contemporary pop-punk songs.<\/p>\n<p>And, while much of <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i> is good, there are flashes of genuine inspiration dotted throughout. The last minute and a half of <i>\u2018Fake Confrontations\u2019<i> is a delight, while <i>\u2018Late Bloomer\u2019<i> makes the most of Fitzgerald\u2019s voice, for example. <\/i><\/i><\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>That said, often in <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i>, it would be great to have a second voice more often in the mix if only to offer a competing texture to Fitzgerald\u2019s vocals. It\u2019s also a tad bloated and at 12 tracks a touch excessive. You can, it seems, get too much of a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, <i>\u2018Words, Unsaid\u2019<\/i> is an enjoyable romp that shines in flashes and excels in the briefest of moments. There\u2019ll certainly be better pop-punk albums this year \u2013 but there\u2019ll be plenty worse too.
