With the latter certainly prompting a degree of conflict amongst the band\u2019s fans, with some left alienated. Inner-strife followed with all the group\u2019s members, barring the founding brothers, Taylor and Colin Young, taking their leave after the record\u2019s release.<\/p>\n<p>With new recruits Sean Martin (guitar), Alec Faber (bass) and Cayle Sain (drums) on board, <i>&#8216;Disharmony\u2019<\/i>\u2019s follow-up, <i>&#8216;Gaining Purpose Through Passionate Hatred\u2019<\/i>, may now prove a critical juncture for the band. And there is no shortage of ambition on show on <i>&#8216;AWOL (State of the Nation)\u2019<\/i>, opening with atmospheric, crystalline acoustic guitar before journeying through various tempos, rhythms and directions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Twitching Tongues - Harakiri (OFFICIAL VIDEO)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b-npJzXpOYI?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The venom of <i>&#8216;Harikiri\u2019<\/i> and the anti-Trump <i>\u2019T.F.R\u2019<\/i> is embellished through saturated and reverb-soaked production, but they nonetheless feel a little hollow, notwithstanding a couple of notable and well-judged riffing sections. <i>&#8216;Forgive &amp; Remember\u2019<\/i> is particularly forgettable musically, its dark humour not quite salvaging a weak middle portion of the album.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Long Gone\u2019<\/i>, a piano-led ballad that highlights Colin Young\u2019s ability as a vocalist, is a stand-out that is tellingly out of keeping with the rest of <i>&#8216;GPTPH\u2019<\/i>. The ethereal, almost churchlike quality of his low section is impressively effective. It is far more memorable than the meandering, overlong <i>&#8216;Defection (Union of the State)\u2019<\/i> that closes things.<\/p>\n<p>The album title is a paraphrase of philosopher Eric Hoffer, who said: <i>\u201cpassionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life\u201d<\/i>. Said \u201chatred\u201d may be directed at departed fans and band members, but in these tracks, the vitriol rarely comes across as passionate.
