Their debut album <i>\u2018We Can Live Here Forever\u2019<\/i> is the product of six years together, since forming in high-school, and makes for a deeply reflective musing on life and love.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;WCLHF\u2019<\/i> is a richly contrasting record that weaves an interesting fabric as it picks at the seams of indie rock and folk, stitching together atmospheric soundscapes and fuzzy guitars with hypnotic mantra-like vocal lines. Opener, <i>&#8216;I\u2019ve Been Getting Headaches Lately\u2019<\/i>, is a prime example, with its downbeat acoustics and reflective refrain of <i>\u201cYou won\u2019t take mine\u201d<\/i>, meandering lazily to a searing backdrop.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Barely Civil - &quot;Lost\/\/Found&quot;\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8Sf50viuNVE?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The multiple textures of their mid-west emo-tinged indie give the songs an engaging maturity. <i>&#8216;Handwritten House\u2019<\/i>, for instance, starts off delicately but evolves into an interesting blend of tenderly atmospheric brooding rock, while the quirky melody to <i>&#8216;Stark\u2019<\/i> avoids whimsicality with a dark fuzziness lending it a serious undercurrent. <i>&#8216;Stark\u2019<\/i> segues into <i>&#8216;Kent\u2019<\/i>, which then weaves a downbeat tapestry of hurt, heartbreaking and beautiful in equal measure.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lovely balance to the record though, songs like <i>&#8216;Eau Claire? Oh, Claire\u2019<\/i> offer a tender take on love and loss, whereas <i>\u2019Re: Your Lungs\u2019<\/i> has a cool groove building into an angst-fueled lament. There are also a few tracks, like the subtly uplifting <i>&#8216;Lost\/\/Found\u2019<\/i>, the angular <i>&#8216;You With A Cape, Me With A Baseball Bat\u2019<\/i> and the superb <i>&#8216;Super 8\/Marathon\u2019<\/i> with a more straightforward indie-rock tilt, which are no less engaging than the more textured numbers. However, it\u2019s the downbeat <i>&#8216;I Am Drowning\u2019<\/i> that steals the show as its folky acoustics build into a stunningly cathartic finale.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, <i>&#8216;We Can Live Here Forever\u2019<\/i> is a deeply satisfying album that stylishly explores the subtleties of reflective indie-rock, with repeated listens reveal more and more depth to the record.
