Indeed, this is undoubtedly how sub-genres are formed and grow. While it can scarcely be claimed that <b>Trophy Eyes<\/b> are pioneering a new genre on sophomore LP <i>\u2019Chemical Miracle\u2019<\/i>, as John Floreani\u2019s vocal effortlessly eases between tuneful and the most pure of visceral screams, never has a band\u2019s sound seemed so comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>2014 debut <i>\u2019Mend, Move On\u2019<\/i> was grittier, heavier and packed more of a punch than many of their peers could muster, and two years on they have reached an entirely new level. <i>\u2019Chlorine\u2019<\/i> is a hook-upon-hook, gigantic opener. <i>\u2019Counting Sheep\u2019<\/i> is the group\u2019s best song yet, boasting the kind of chorus that endures for years &#8211; not to mention a generous helping of <i>&ldquo;na-na-na&rdquo;<\/i>s.<\/p>\n<p><!-- more --><\/p>\n<p>The dynamic <i>\u2019Heaven Sent\u2019<\/i> recalls <i>\u2019D\u00e9ja Entendu&rsquo;<\/i> era Brand New, varying the pace at the perfect moment. <i>\u2019Chemical\u2019<\/i> is a vision of Zack De La Rocha let loose on Pink Floyd\u2019s <i>\u2019Money\u2019<\/i>, while <i>\u2019Breathe You In\u2019<i><\/i>\u2019s snaking riff is a subtle compliment to an all-clean delivery by Floreani. The anthemic <i>\u2019Suicide Pact\u2019<\/i> will one day set arenas alight, reprising an effective half-time outro that is notable too on <i>\u2019Counting Sheep\u2019.<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>The whole thing is scattered with an intelligent brand of lyricism that ranges from the dryly humorous (<i>\u201cI\u2019m so poetic when I\u2019ve been drinking\u201d<\/i> &#8211; <i>\u2019Home Is\u2019<\/i>) to the saddest side of honest (<i>\u201cI got friends who don\u2019t love me like I love them\u201d<\/i> &#8211; <i>\u2019Daydreamer\u2019<\/i>), and it just adds a further layer to the tracks, each yielding a fresh find on each listen.<\/p>\n<p><b>Trophy Eyes<\/b>, regardless of whether you brand them pop-punk, hardcore or anything in between, here have a record that makes genre redundant.
