From the renowned heavyweights closing the festival each night to a vast array of up-and-coming names, <b>Download Festival<\/b> has a hell of a lot to offer. <\/p>\n<p>You could say there&rsquo;s <i>too much<\/i> see. Nevertheless, <b>Already Heard<\/b> is here to help as we pick out 22 must-see bands to watch this weekend. Whether you know every lyric in German or not, classic hits such as <i>\u2018Du Hast\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Mein Teil\u2019<\/i> get hearts racing, while <i>\u2018Du Riechst So Gut\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Ich Will\u2019<\/i> provide just enough singalongs to close the first night on the right note.<\/p>\n<p>Given this headliner was a surprise addition in place of frontman Till Lindemann\u2019s solo venture, and in the aftermath of last year\u2019s incendiary <i>\u2018Rammstein in Amerika\u2019<\/i> live DVD and documentary, fans and newcomers alike will warm to Friday\u2019s closer and not just thanks to the excessive use of fire and treadmills on stage. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 9:10pm &#8211; 10:50pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/4d3bb5d047f648b7ba5868920adbd294\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so8_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Black Sabbath<\/h2>\n<p>This is it \u2013 the end of <b>Black Sabbath<\/b>. Announcing 2016 as the final year for the metal godfathers since their reunion in 2011, this Download headliner will close the book of Sabbath for the UK. They\u2019ve endured countless controversies since they headed back to the stage together and even now frontman Ozzy Osbourne remains under fire, but this appearance looks beyond the surface in celebration of their colossal career.<\/p>\n<p>From classics <i>\u2018Paranoid\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Iron Man\u2019<\/i> to <i>\u2018Faeries Wear Boots\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Children Of The Grave\u2019<\/i>, there\u2019s morbid pseudo-occult singalongs from every orifice in this farewell set. If you count new contagion <i>\u2018God Is Dead\u2019<\/i> alongside the ageless <i>\u2018War Pigs\u2019<\/i>, one last salute to the pioneers of a genre as energetic and alive as ever is to be expected to explode the Lemmy Stage on Saturday night. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 8:50pm &#8211; 10:30pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Saturday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/d59d11a10d7cacbbdc9153d1ace41622\/tumblr_nwhbanfJ4l1r8no6so2_r1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">Iron Maiden<\/h2>\n<p>In the shadow of the mushroom cloud that is last year\u2019s <i>\u2018The Book of Souls\u2019<\/i>, <b>Iron Maiden<\/b> close Download 2016 on nothing short of a Big Bang. A rite of passage in the ways of Download, veteran fans and newcomers aren\u2019t likely to avoid the pull off Sunday\u2019s headliner. New set features <i>\u2018Tears of a Clown\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018If Eternity Should Fail\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Speed of Light\u2019<\/i> will quite easily light up the Lemmy Stage alongside the greats.<\/p>\n<p>13 million Facebook fans can\u2019t be wrong \u2013 <i>\u2018The Trooper\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Fear of the Dark\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018The Number of the Beast\u2019<\/i> are destined to create arena-wide singalongs and draw the curtain on a well-loved festival with a promise that however metal may change and move on, old favourites Iron Maiden will always be there. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 8:50pm &#8211; 10:50pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Sunday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/1b05638ed00ca70ba05d9610138a619f\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so10_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Deftones<\/h2>\n<p>Fresh off a career highlight show at Wembley Arena, <b>Deftones<\/b> return to Download with plenty of momentum. The Sacramento rockers eighth record <i>\u2018Gore\u2019<\/i> has seen them once again expand their musical pallet, however Chino Moreno and company still know how to \u201crock\u201d having built a catalogue of riff-filled songs that can unite any festival crowd especially the Donington faithful.<\/p>\n<p>With the on-going argument of potential future headliners, <b>Deftones<\/b> are well worth being put in contention of one day topping the bill. This sub-headline slot on Saturday could be make or break for them, yet we\u2019ve got a feeling that many people will be labelling them as \u201cfuture headliners\u201d at the end of the weekend. The nu metal menaces return to the main stage for a sub-headliner crammed with teenage flashbacks and not-so-guilty pleasures to set the Lemmy Stage a light. Fans of the old school <i>\u2018Freak On A Leash\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Got The Life\u2019<\/i> can once again join forces with new <i>\u2018Narcissistic Cannibal\u2019<\/i>s <i>\u2018Hater\u2019<\/i>s, fawning over frontman Jonathan Davis\u2019 mic stand as ever.<\/p>\n<p>Adding Download to their extensive European festival circuit this year, even though they haven\u2019t released any new material since 2013\u2019s <i>\u2018The Paradigm Shift\u2019<\/i>, <b>Korn<\/b> are bringing out a glorious cover of Metallica\u2019s <i>\u2018One\u2019<\/i> to remind one and all that this runaway train has no desire to stop anytime soon. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 7:00pm &#8211; 8:10pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/169596a6b7bdfbd742de61fff895d180\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so3_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Disturbed<\/h2>\n<p>Last year\u2019s <i>\u2018Immortalized\u2019<\/i> was a pivotal turn for iconic heavies <b>Disturbed<\/b> \u2013 even though opinions are still torn today, there\u2019s no doubting the legacy this band bring to the stage after 22 years. Returning to Donington to showcase their sixth studio venture, new additions <i>\u2018The Light\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018The Vengeful One\u2019<\/i> will be proof that there\u2019s plenty to celebrate about this lot.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with their new heart-wrenching cover of <i>\u2018The Sound of Silence\u2019<\/i>, this will likely be the only tranquil section of <b>Disturbed<\/b>\u2019s slot. Once the unforgettable <i>\u2018Stupify\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Down With The Sickness\u2019<\/i> kick in, however, there\u2019s likely to be chants all the way back to camp incorporating frontman David Draiman\u2019s trademark <i>\u201cooh-wa-ah-ah\u201d<\/i>s. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 5:00pm &#8211; 6:00pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Sunday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/970550c4ce0b57753f4324cd9a143d9b\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so4_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Killswitch Engage<\/h2>\n<p>In the wake of March\u2019s devastatingly heavy <i>\u2018Incarnate\u2019<\/i>, metalcore royalty <b>Killswitch Engage<\/b> grace the Donington landscape once again since 2014\u2019s incredible set. Longstanding fans will adore <i>\u2018My Last Serenade\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018The End Of Heartache\u2019<\/i> and most likely belt every note back to charismatic frontman Jesse Leach with fervour and admiration for their 17-year history.<\/p>\n<p>That said, with outstanding new set additions in <i>\u2018Alone I Stand\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Hate By Design\u2019<\/i> from their seventh opus, this Download Festival appearance is likely to be their best yet. Commended for their longevity after all these years, <b>Killswitch Engage<\/b> always makes for a crowd-pleasing, eye-catching and head-banging feature. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 4:10pm &#8211; 5:00pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/bc0e85eacd628779f63cc815388e3075\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so2_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">The Amity Affliction<\/h2>\n<p>Australian metalcore makes its triumphant return in the form of <b>The Amity Affliction<\/b> on Friday\u2019s Zippo Encore Stage. After a storming third stage debut at 2014\u2019s festival, the Aussie heavies are hopefully due to unleash tracks from their fifth album <i>\u2018This Could Be Heartbreak\u2019<\/i>, due in August.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh from appearances at Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park and the UK Slam Dunk tour, Donington\u2019s ready to hear favourites <i>\u2018Pittsburgh\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Bondi St Blues\u2019<\/i> grace the field once more and marvel at just how unclean vox Joel Birch hasn\u2019t bust a lung by now. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 5:05pm &#8211; 5:45pm &#8211; Zippo Encore Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/f3124439626fe3e4a8541a77b7dffdb4\/tumblr_o8bbmsCTQQ1r8no6so7_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Billy Talent<\/h2>\n<p>Download Festival is the home of singalongs, especially when <b>Billy Talent<\/b> appear. Taking to Sunday\u2019s Zippo Encore Stage, the lovable rockers return to Donington after a four-year absence armed with hits and a new album due next month. With new tracks <i>\u2018Afraid of Heights\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Louder Than the DJ\u2019<\/i> from the upcoming album, this set is due to test the waters with British fans in the only way they know how.<\/p>\n<p>Fan favourites <i>\u2018Devil In A Midnight Mass\u2019<\/i>, <i>\u2018Fallen Leaves\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Try Honesty\u2019<\/i> are sure to form some camp chants this year &#8211; hell, even <i>\u2018Rusted from the Rain\u2019<\/i> will probably make an appearance. Download without Billy Talent isn\u2019t really Download, so we\u2019re just glad they\u2019re back. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 6:10pm &#8211; 6:55pm &#8211; Zippo Encore Stage &#8211; Sunday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/990143e7fad9e773f001ab3c83ee1242\/tumblr_o8bbh2VYz71r8no6so1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Breaking Benjamin<\/h2>\n<p>We can\u2019t believe it either. <b>Breaking Benjamin<\/b> are not only making their Download debut on Sunday\u2019s Zippo Encore Stage but their UK debut in general. Frontman Benjamin Burnley is, at last, breaking his fear of flying to venture outside the States and Canada, and dreams really do come true for long-term fans, as those classics <i>\u2018Blow Me Away\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018So Cold\u2019<\/i> will sweep away the cobwebs and remind young and old that rock is still alive and kicking.<\/p>\n<p>The contagious <i>\u2018The Diary Of Jane\u2019<\/i> is due to echo across the Donington fields just as much as newer additions such as <i>\u2018Angels Fall\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Bury Me Alive\u2019<\/i>, taken from last year\u2019s <i>\u2018Dark Before Dawn\u2019<\/i>. All things considered, this set is not to be missed as we may never see its like again. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 4:00pm &#8211; 4:40pm &#8211; Zippo Encore Stage &#8211; Sunday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/7ff8cca93256f411ff86b021a1a6eab7\/tumblr_o826rcmX8Y1r8no6so4_r1_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Gojira<\/h2>\n<p>The metal Godzilla, French heavies <b>Gojira<\/b> are keen to tease their 17th June release of sixth album <i>\u2018Magma\u2019<\/i> with a Sunday Maverick Stage set, their first Donington appearance since 2006. Such a festival absence will only fuel the excitement in the tent as classics <i>\u2018Vacuity\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018The Heaviest Matter of the Universe\u2019<\/i> burst from the amps at a rate of knots.<\/p>\n<p>New additions <i>\u2018Silvera\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Stranded\u2019<\/i> will grace their incendiary set just as confidently as relatively recent corkers <i>\u2018Toxic Garbage Island\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018L\u2019Enfant Sauvage\u2019<\/i>. This is a band that know the formula to studio success, and this is a rare UK treat to witness <i>\u2018The Art of Dying\u2019<\/i>. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 5:20pm &#8211; 6:00pm &#8211; The Maverick Stage &#8211; Sunday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/df414d1102f97aecfc4bf9c15a759406\/tumblr_o8bbmsCTQQ1r8no6so6_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Heck<\/h2>\n<p>For some, including us, <b>Heck<\/b>\u2019s much talked about name change is long in the past. The long-awaited debut album, <i>\u2018Instructions,\u2019<\/i> marked a new chapter for the raucous Nottingham quartet. Now with a set of effective songs to match their notorious live show, Heck continue to be one of the UK\u2019s most exciting bands.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a mid-afternoon boost, head to the Maverick stage on Friday where you can expect to see Heck to produce a fine-tuned display of thrashing noise-core. Don\u2019t be surprised if Johnny Hall and Matt Reynolds decide to explore the tent and beyond. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 3:30pm &#8211; 4:00pm &#8211; The Maverick Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/4c2c366b963c5ff4c356937c69c5af2c\/tumblr_o8bbmsCTQQ1r8no6so5_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Zoax<\/h2>\n<p>One of the most promising UK acts to emerge over the past 18 months, London-based rockers Zoax have gradually been winning over fans and critics with their genre-crossing brand of alt rock. Their recent debut self-titled is full of vibrant, well-crafted songs that makes you both intrigued and excited with songs such as <i>\u2018The Bad Blood,&rsquo;<\/i> <i>&lsquo;Roses All The Way&rsquo;<\/i> and <i>\u2018Devil Dance\u2019<\/i> showcasing their versatility.<\/p>\n<p>A mid-afternoon slot in-between alongside fellow British hopefuls Puppy and Heck seems ideal for <b>Zoax<\/b> as they offer a balanced mix of melody and riffs, with frontman Adam Carroll sure to be as charismatic as always. (SR) <\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 2:40pm &#8211; 3:05pm &#8211; The Maverick Stage &#8211; Friday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/4618f8a15b513ddc05f1e453dceef9d2\/tumblr_o8bbmsCTQQ1r8no6so4_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">SIXX:A.M<\/h2>\n<p>Motley Crue may have called time on their career at last year\u2019s Download, but Nikki Sixx\u2019s project <b>Sixx:A.M.<\/b> are just as capable of drawing out some contagious camp chants this year. Hitting the Lemmy Stage on Saturday for the first time, Nikki and company come bearing singalongs and punchy riffs galore, with fan favourites <i>\u2018This Is Gonna Hurt\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Stars\u2019<\/i> pulling no punches at the hands of frontman James Michael.<\/p>\n<p>Since the April release of <i>\u2018Prayers for the Damned Vol. 1\u2019<\/i> and the rising anticipation for the second volume to be released this year, fans and newcomers can expect plenty of new material from this rare UK outing of classic rock talents extraordinaire. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 2:25pm &#8211; 3:10pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Saturday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/54829cbdeca1e0c287ac7f9ac4e9beff\/tumblr_o8bbmsCTQQ1r8no6so3_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Atreyu<\/h2>\n<p>In the wake of last year\u2019s return to form with sixth studio banger <i>\u2018Long Live\u2019<\/i>, <b>Atreyu<\/b> are well and truly back. They\u2019ve recharged their batteries, cranked up the amps and they\u2019ve got the Lemmy Stage in their sights. Armed to the teeth with storming older classics <i>\u2018Ex\u2019s and Oh\u2019s\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Lip Gloss and Black\u2019<\/i>, if a nostalgia trip is what you\u2019re after then this bunch are well worth the trek from the village.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, <i>\u2018Do You Know Who You Are?\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Long Live\u2019<\/i> are destined for air-punching singalongs right next to the timeless anthems <i>\u2018Right Side Of The Bed\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Becoming The Bull\u2019<\/i>. Missing <b>Atreyu<\/b> is usually a travesty in itself, but missing <b>Atreyu<\/b> on the hallowed Download stage is unforgivable. (AC)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 1:15pm &#8211; 1:55pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Saturday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/d444d6383f47a87d89db2ea801c9bf84\/tumblr_o809iv6rUV1r8no6so2_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Beartooth<\/h2>\n<p>Well <b>Beartooth<\/b> certainly did something right last year, didn\u2019t they? They\u2019re returning to Donington just 12 months later, and on the main stage too. New album <i>\u2018Aggressive\u2019<\/i> has split opinion but you can\u2019t argue it still contains an array of anthemic mosh-worthy songs; <i>\u2018Always Dead,\u2019<\/i> <i>\u2018Hated,\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Sick of Me\u2019<\/i>. When combined with older cuts such as <i>\u2018In Between,\u2019<\/i> <i>\u2018The Lines\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Beaten In Lips,\u2019<\/i> the Ohio hardcore group are quickly developing a set of wall-to-wall ragers that will surely justify the jump from third to first stage. <\/p>\n<p><b>Beartooth<\/b> are on a wave of momentum yet they\u2019ll arrive at Download with a point to prove. Nevertheless they have all the right ingredients to leave a lasting impression. Just like the did last year. (SR)<\/p>\n<p><b>Where &amp; When:<\/b> 12:05pm &#8211; 12:45pm &#8211; Lemmy Stage &#8211; Saturday<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/ae88e0d57387f62a92a2312507566a08\/tumblr_o6hx35uEP41r8no6so4_1280.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"image\" title=\"\">Architects<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside Bury Tomorrow (and depending on who you ask) Bring Me The Horizon, <b>Architects<\/b> have been leading a UK metal revival for close to ten years. Latest album, <i>\u2018All Our Gods Have Abandon Us,\u2019<\/i> has been labelled as a \u201ccareer best\u201d and rightly so. Subtly adventurous, the record is perfectly chaotic that emphasis all of <b>Architects<\/b>\u2019 strengths; grand musicianship and impressive songwriting wrapped in a ball of pure rage.<\/p>\n<p>Although this time at Download they find themselves on the second stage (rather than the main,) <b>Architects<\/b> are a live force to be reckoned with. With a finely tuned array of songs that are more than capable to stir up any crowd, the Brighton quintet have all the right ingredients to make this weekends appearance one to remember. It&rsquo;s a trademark that has seen them go from strength to strength with every album, honing their sound with every record. If you&rsquo;re looking for a late afternoon band to want you up for Architects, Deftones etc, then there is no other choice than <b>Bury Tomorrow<\/b>. Fronted by pro skater Josh Landau, California\u2019s lysergic marvels are rarely seen blasting their way across the pond, so their Saturday slot is not to be missed.<\/p>\n<p>Even more so, if stoner rock isn\u2019t your usual forte or you\u2019ve never pondered the benefits of psychedelia, <b>The Shrine<\/b> helpfully provide a perfect accompaniment to drinking the evening away and chanting along with <i>\u2018Coming Down Quick\u2019<\/i>. For fans of Saturday\u2019s headliners Black Sabbath, these 70\u2019s-inspired prot\u00e9g\u00e9s are ones to watch. With musical wisdom far beyond their years and yet an unbounded youthful energy, it\u2019s probably not wise to put this band anywhere with a roof which they can raise.<\/p>\n<p>Their dedicated following are likely to pack out the fourth stage as stormers <i>\u2018Wintervention\u2019<\/i> and <i>\u2018Ghost In The Machine\u2019<\/i> blast their way through the festival\u2019s closing day, their brand new banger <i>\u2018Not In My Name\u2019<\/i> will keep you going on your way to <i>\u2018Find Hell\u2019<\/i> if you\u2019re absolutely <i>\u2018Still Dead\u2019<\/i>. Their brand of stirring and dynamic alt rock might be seen as a fresh air to the plethora of riffery and screaming that dominates the Donington air.<\/p>\n<p>Although debut album <i>&#8216;I&rsquo;m Not Well&rsquo;<\/i> isn&rsquo;t due till August 19th, recent singles <i>&#8216;Husk&rsquo;<\/i> and the title track display <b>Black Foxxes<\/b>&rsquo; raw versatility. Donington has often served as a breeding ground for new talent, and this year it&rsquo;s <b>Black Foxxes<\/b>&rsquo; opportunity to shine.
