{"id":5348,"date":"2016-06-02T11:00:13","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T11:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-fatherson-open-book\/"},"modified":"2018-03-21T22:16:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T22:16:04","slug":"album-review-fatherson-open-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-fatherson-open-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Album Review: Fatherson &#8211; Open Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/5fc89b83d762f928e831f9bdf87323f5\/tumblr_o7l1ne6VS51r8no6so1_540.jpg\" width=\"250em\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow\u2019s <b>Fatherson<\/b> made a real impression with 2014\u2019s <i>\u2018I Am An Island\u2019<\/i>, and while it was excellent, it felt like they needed to find more of their own sound to avoid the comparisons with similarly epic (and Scottish) heroes Frightened Rabbit and the more sonically ambitious We Were Promised Jetpacks. <\/p>\n<p>Second album <i>\u2018Open Book\u2019<\/i> does this and then some; no longer in the shadow of their peers, it deserves to establish them as one of the premier acts to emerge from the north of the border. <\/p>\n<p>Vocalist Ross Leighton has such a rich, powerful voice he can make your heart break or swell in a single syllable. And, as the group have pushed their epic sound to the limit, it means <i>\u2018Open Book\u2019<\/i> is a simply gorgeous effort that will give you chills and thrills in equal measure. <i> \u2018Just Past The Point of Breaking\u2019<\/i> is just so perfect it\u2019ll send shivers down your spine, while the gentle <i> \u2018Wondrous Heart\u2019<\/i> is a subtly infectious slice of alt-rock that exudes class and confidence.  <!-- more --><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all dour sincerity however.
