Whether Pierce the Veil<\/b> could top their last album \u2018Collide with the Sky\u2019<\/i> has been a wary subject since the 2012 release, but after four years the pressure is off and fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.<\/p>\n

\u2018Misadventures,\u2019<\/i> fortunately, is not a repeat of the last album, nor is it a calamity of ideas. It is, however, an excellent example of a band maturing in their overall sound and the San Diego rockers have grown from the juvenile musicians many young fans associated with while still sounding very much the same.<\/p>\n

Kicking the record off, \u2018Dive In\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Texas Is Forever\u2019<\/i> stick to PTV<\/b>\u2019s roots, carried by the intensity of Mike Fuentes\u2019 drumming and the dynamic range of frontman Vic\u2019s vocal work. Similarly, \u2018The Divine Zero\u2019<\/i> shows off their heavier side with a groove-like breakdown and shrilling uncleans. <\/p>\n

\u2018Floral and Fading\u2019<\/i> mixes pop-rock and an interesting ballad-like structure while \u2018Bedless\u2019<\/i> shows off the band\u2019s electronic undertones which brings out the distinct modernity they possess. \u2018Phantom Power and Ludicrous Speed\u2019<\/i> is an intense listen which allows the four piece to put their talents together as a whole. \u2018Circles\u2019<\/i> may sound like the usual pop-punk tune but carries layered lyrics telling of the horror of the 2015 Paris attacks. A couple of tracks just don\u2019t pack the punch for me like \u2018Gold Medal Ribbon\u2019<\/i> and \u2018Sambuka\u2019<\/i>, lyrics from which are destined to be jotted over many a teen\u2019s schoolbook but finishing the album, \u2018Song For Isabelle\u2019<\/i> holds the right balance of poignant lyrics and pop-punk pace.<\/p>\n

Stylistically, there isn\u2019t one particular song that sticks in your head, but that\u2019s not to say that \u2018Misadventures\u2019<\/i> isn\u2019t a brilliant example of a band evolving but still keeping a classic consistency to cater to fans both the old fans and to attract a new generation. It\u2019s clear they worked hard on this.<\/p>\n
